What Did We Learn This Week?

Language Arts

We learned about China this week and ate Ramen noodles(we were supposed to eat with chopsticks, but ran out!). They LOVED them! Also, we learned about Chinese numbers in centers and watched a video on brainpop jr. about China. We did all of this because we read a story called My First American Friend, which told about a friendship created between a girl from America and a girl from China. We used a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the girls. Also, we learned about subject pronouns in Grammar. Last, we are all writing our final draft of the past and most of us are done!

This week we began a new concept of subtraction with and without borrowing. We have learned how to borrow to the 100's place, but are still practicing this concept. Next week, we will do more practice, take a quiz, and then move on to subtraction to the 1000's place. We have fun games planned too to practice this concept!

We had so much fun exploring and learning more about Geology this week. First we cut an egg in half and used a magnifying glass to explore the layers of the earth. The shell was the crust, the gray was the mantle, and the yellow was the outer and inner core! Next, we colored, cut out, and labeled the layers of the earth to create a model picture. Thank you to those who have sent in their rock collections. If your child has one, please send it in next week or even have him/her go exploring in your backyard and neighborhood and start one!

Dear 2nd grade parents,

Our ARIOT KOTEV letter is ד (DALED) and the story with this letter is about קַבָּלַת הַסִּדּוּר KABALAT HASIDUR—how appropriate for our 2nd graders who are preparing to get their own Siddurim!

This is a great app I recommend for Hebrew vocabulary:
