Guidance

In Guidance during the month of December we will continue discussing feelings. With the kindergarteners and first graders we are learning to recognize other’s feelings so that we can have empathy and understanding for one another. In second and third grade we are focusing on compassion and how to show kindness for one another. Each of these skills will help us understand one another better and build better relationships. Empathy will help us get along with each other and care for one another. Remember, Compassion is Empathy is Action. Being kind to one another will help us build a stronger community.

PBIS

Positive Behavior Intervention Supports. At Ekstrand we strive to recognize the positive behaviors our students exhibit. When an adult sees a student showing positive behavior such as helping another student or doing the right thing even when no one else does, they can earn a Purple Paw. This is a slip of purple paper that the teacher gives the student that they turn into the office to be announced during lunch. This positive attention goes a long way when supporting our students and teaching them the expectations. It is truly magical to see the students' faces when they are announced by Mr. Miller during lunch.

Buddy Bench

Following break students will return to school with a new bench at recess. The 'Buddy Bench' was donated by a community member and will serve as a way for students to get involved during their recess. The way it works is a student wanting a friend to play with at recess will sit on the bench and a classmate will come over to ask the student to join them in whatever activity it is they are involved with. The bench was introduced to students during our last PBIS assembly on Friday November 17th.

Music Program Update

The holiday music program for Ekstrand elementary is quickly approaching. This year

the K-1 program is called "Snow Much Fun!" and will be performed on Monday, December 4. The 2-3 program is called "On With the Snow!" and will be performed on Thursday, December 7. Both performances are at 6:30 p.m. in the CDPAC (Central DeWitt Performing Arts Center), and the doors open at 6:00 p.m.

3rd Grade Night of the Notables

On the evening of Thursday November 2nd parents, grandparents, friends, and community members were welcomed into the school to walk the halls and meet our 3rd grade Notable people from history. The students did a wonderful job of researching and presenting the information they had learned about their notable figure. Thanks to all who came out and joined us in this special evening for our students.
