Principal's Message
Dear LaSalle II Families-
As you have likely seen, we have had a recent uptick in Covid cases at the school. Prior to this week, we had not had a positive case since September 8th. The increase is aligned to what we are seeing with the increase in cases nationally, especially among school-aged children.
We ask that you please reiterate to your child the importance of mask wearing and following other health and safety protocols. This includes wearing masks above the nose and if unvaccinated, wearing masks when in large group gatherings outside of school. With the holidays approaching I know we are all looking forward to spending time with our loved ones, so now is the time to remain vigilant and ensure everyone remains safe and healthy.
Also, I highly encourage you to sign-up for weekly covid testing at the school. We have caught several cases via our surveillance testing and while the on-site testing won't catch every case, it does ensure that we are doing everything possible to catch cases early and stop the spread. The link to sign-up is below.
Thanks!
Principal

Chicago Travel Advisory
The travel restrictions for unvaccinated people has not changed. Please follow these guidelines and take into consideration if planning to leave the state to states that are orange or red on the travel advisory over Thanksgiving Break with unvaccinated children. See map HERE, (map updates weekly). These requirements apply to all unvaccinated students even if students were isolated while out of state.
- The CDC recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated;
- Unvaccinated persons who leave the state of Illinois to visit orange states (this includes all children 11-years-old and younger who are not yet fully vaccinated) should self-quarantine for 7 days after returning to Chicago, even if they have received a negative COVID test; AND
- Unvaccinated students who leave the state should not come to school during their self-quarantine period, which is 7 days if they receive a negative COVID test 3-5 days after they return to Chicago or 10 days if they do not covid test
- Vaccinated travelers are not required to self-quarantine or test unless they develop symptoms if traveling within the United States.
New CPS Promotion Policy
The CPS elementary promotion policy was updated for the 2021-2022 school year. Promotion for students in benchmark grades 3, 6, and 8 will be determined based on the student’s academic performance as reflected in final grades in reading and mathematics and will not take into account any assessment scores. Students with final failing grades in reading and/or mathematics for both the 21-22 school year and the 20-21 school year will be required to successfully complete summer school to be promoted to the next grade level. You can view the updated policy here.

Virtual School Tour
Also, we are excited to announce the release of our first ever virtual school tour! We know that many families have never had the opportunity to come inside the building due to the pandemic so this is a great resource to get a glimpse of our facilities. Please click the link below.
GoCPS 2022-2023 Application Window is Open!
The application window for students applying to schools for the 22-23 school year is open and will close In December.
Please note that if you have a current student who has a sibling, you MUST complete an application for their enrollment. Siblings do not receive preference for admission unless an application is completed.
Student Covid Testing
If you are interested in having your child participate in testing, please follow the link below and complete the registration process. A parent or guardian must register any minor under 18 years old, and you’ll give a one-time consent and HIPAA authorization to share your child’s results with the school and district.
Testing is optional for students, except for unvaccinated and partially vaccinated student athletes. Testing will take place during regular school hours and results will be available in 24 to 48 hours. Color Health will follow up with you directly if the pool in which your child participated has a positive result.

Celebrating Veterans Day in Third Grade
During the month of November, the third graders in Mrs. Baird and Ms. Catala’s classroom learned a lot about veterans day. We read books and newsmagazines, and watched videos to learn when and why we celebrate this special day. Several students actually got to interview veterans from their own family and share their responses. It was very cool to talk with real veterans and learn about their struggles and accomplishments. The culminating activity was writing an actual letter of gratitude to our veterans who are deployed around the world. Mrs. Baird mailed all the letters to the “Operation Gratitude”and “Support Our Troops” programs, and we are hoping to get some responses back. It was an informative and fun activity, and we all learned a lot about the army, navy, air force, marines, and coast guard. To all the veterans in our LaSalle 2 family, Room 120 wants to say thank you for your service!
