Free Lunch Meals for All Students

As a part of the United States Department of Agriculture’s national COVID-19 waiver program, Westfield Washington Schools will be providing breakfast and lunch meals for FREE, all year long, to all Pre K-12 students, whether you apply for free/reduced lunch or not. You will still need to apply for the free/reduced program in order to receive financial assistance for curricular materials (textbooks, workbooks, classroom novels, online resources, and supplies like science lab chemicals, and art supplies).

What is considered a free meal?
Students can receive one free lunch AND one free breakfast per school day. Meals must meet the existing USDA guidelines in order to be free, meaning meals MUST include an entrée, fruit/vegetables and milk. A la carte/snack items (extra entrees, beverages, and snacks/drinks) will still be an additional charge.

Do we still need Lunch Time accounts?
Yes, students can still use lunch accounts to purchase additional meals, snacks and a la carte items. If a student does not take an entrée, fruit/veggie AND a milk, their Lunch Time account will be charged for the a la carte items.

Are pre-K snacks free?

Pre-K snacks will NOT be free as the waiver only applies to two MEALS per day.

Middle School Assistant Principal Sarah Hoffman

Let's all welcome Sarah Hoffman to the Rocks family! Sarah comes to us after 14 years at Avon Community Schools. For the past five years she was the instructional coach at Avon Middle School South. Prior to coaching Sarah taught 5th grade language arts and social studies, along with inclusion special education at Avon Intermediate East. Sarah attended Ball State University. She recently bought a home in Brownsburg and is getting married in September. She can’t wait to meet the Westfield Middle School families for the 2021-2022 school year.

If you get the chance, please give Sarah and her fiancé a warm Westfield Welcome!

Why a delay on Wednesday?

Every Wednesday, our teachers use the first 30 minutes of the day to engage in professional development. This allows them to continually hone their craft and become better teachers for our growing Shamrocks.

Extended Learning Days

In addition to delayed Wednesdays, there are three Wednesdays, one per trimester, built into the schedule for full-day professional development. That means, on those days, students WILL NOT come to school. Instead, these days should be used to extend learning beyond the classroom. Teachers will recommend educational activities for students. High schoolers can use these days to go on college visits. Or, students can use this opportunity to log volunteer hours.

These extended learning Wednesdays are below. The district calendar link below has been updated to reflect these dates.

  • September 15
  • January 12
  • April 20

According to the Indiana Department of Education, because Westfield Washington is a high-performing district, these extended learning days WILL NOT need to be made up at the end of the school year.

SafeVisitor Accounts

To visit WWS schools, read this information carefully.

Westfield Washington Schools recently made the decision to extend the expiration date of our volunteer/visitor background checks from three years to four years. As a result of this change, you should have received an email from SafeVisitor Solutions this week with a copy of your updated badge. You were not charged for this upgrade; we simply changed the expiration date to reflect the extension of one additional year.
