Last Week of Grade 2!

A Note from Ms. Graves
With as hectic as these last two weeks have been, I don't want to miss the opportunity to say a big THANK YOU for everything you have done all year. Teaching your children has been such a pleasure and your welcoming embrace into the ASD community has made me one lucky teacher!
As you noticed, this past Thursday Portfolios and Everyday Math practice books from our old curriculum were sent home with students. Please note these books may have problems that relate to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade standards but your child may feel free to practice with any pages over the summer.
Important Dates this week
Step Up Day - students will spend about 30 minutes expierencing grade 3
Swimming Change of Schedule - we will have PE/swimming at 10 am this Sunday instead of our regular Monday class
Publishing Party - with 5E and 5F
Summer Leveled Reading Lists - with the end of the year DRA assessments many students have achieved higher independent reading level, I will send home a list with just-right titles for your child's level for summer reading.
Tuesday - Full Day
PE - last day of swimming
Principal Session - students will work with Ms. Lana and Ms. Mindy in the afternoon
Grade 2 Explore Time - students will choose 3 different explore time activites among the grade 2 classrooms
Thursday - Last Day, dismissal at 11:30am

*Please let me know if you will be picking up your child from school on Thursday. I will be sending home supplies all week so they are not carrying too much that final day.

Qatar Day Rotations
This last week we celebrated the end of our Qatar Then and Now study by rotating to each grade 2 classroom. Students raced camels, made clay oysters, played mancala, designed lanterns and geometric window decorations. It was a fun and exhausting day for sure!
Finishing Touches on Informationl Narratives
As we have been writing our informational narrative books, one thing we have really noticed is how much the illustrations can tell the story. We spent last week adding color, detail, and speech bubbles to our pictures. Our books will be going home after out publishing party on Monday.
Wrapping Up Robotics
Mr. B has been helping is design and program Lego Wedo Robots. This last week of school we will be putting the finishing touches on our documentaries and share them with you.
