Buffett Bulletin

Welcome back for another semester!
I hope you are starting to get back into the routine of the school day. At Buffett we are preparing for next week’s school-wide testing, and always working to have high performing students and teachers in every classroom.
Below you will see a list of our daily vocabulary. As a building, we are all learning the most common vocabulary seen on assessments. Encourage your student by checking their understanding of the vocabulary we are learning school-wide. It takes a community!
This semester we continue our focus on improving academics, the Buffett High Five, and 21st Century Learning through technology. Our magnet is alive and well as students change quarter classes, the yearbook begins production, and BBTV continues production.
It’s a great time to be a Bobcat!

When Is Sick Too Sick For School?
Dear Omaha Public Schools Staff and Families:
With school returning in the heart of cold and flu season, we’re writing to share some proactive reminders with your family. The Douglas County Health Department reports high levels of flu-like illness across the area, so it is helpful to be aware and prepared. Our goal is healthy students and staff and strong attendance in the new year.
Wash your hands: Children and adults with the flu can infect others before their symptoms even show up. Washing your hands regularly with soap and water helps prevent the spread of germs.
Cover your cough and sneeze: Cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue, this helps stop the spread of germs.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth: Doing so can spread germs from your hands.
Practice healthy habits: Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food. Having a healthy lifestyle is one of the best ways to fight illness.
If your child is feeling sick, here’s some information to help you decide whether they’re up for going to school:
NEW Assessment Vocabulary School-Wide Focus
Buffett teachers and students are tackling essential assessment vocabulary in an effort to increase knowledge of words students encounter on standardized tests. These words are often words students have seen and heard of before but don't always understand what the word in asking them to do when they appear in questions on standardized tests.
Buffett To Host Family Advocacy Days
Buffett Middle has partnered with Nebraska Family Support Network to provide Family Advocacy Days. Students and families who need advocacy and assistance in the areas of absenteeism concern or any other areas of need can schedule a session with a NFSN staff member. These sessions will be held in the side conference rooms off our library once per quarter.
The next Family Advocacy Day will be held Tuesday, March 3rd. Please contact chelsea.krebs@ops.org for more information or to schedule a session.
CHI Health and Omaha Public Schools partner to honor teachers across the OPS district

CHI Health will select winners from three different grade levels across the district.
Anyone can nominate a Top Teacher at CHIhealth.com/TopTeachers.
