East China School District News
Together We Can!
A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
What we are seeing happen at East China Schools is not unique. Below are news articles that discuss the challenges that state-wide declining enrollment has created for school districts.
East China School District has had two proposals go to the voters to stabilize the district. One in 2016 and more recently a bond vote was held in May of 2019. Both of these projects were not supported by the voters. East China School District needs to right-size in response to the drastic declining enrollment in order to balance (stabilize) the financial outlook (budget).
- In 2001 East China School District had 5729 students.
- This school year, 2018-2019, the district ended the school year in June with an enrollment of 4066.
- For next school year, 2019-2020, our projected enrollment is 3962.
Based on current enrollment numbers, projected incoming kindergarten students and two enrollment studies (one in 2016 and one in 2019) the trend for declining enrollment for East China School District will continue for the next 7 years.
School districts are funded for operational costs by a per student allocation. The less students that we have the less money that is allocated to our district from the State School Aid Fund.
This declining enrollment equates to a continuing budget shortfall each year of approximately $800,000.00. It is critical that the district stabilize its financial future.
