Steel industry -> prevents rust corrosion

Magnesium Carbonate Acid

CO2 dense gas (sinks)

Upright Tube:

-Filled w CO2 and gas cannot escape

Downward Tube:

-Filled w air and gas escapes

Magnesium and Acid

Hydrogen (H) ; light gas (rises)

Upright Tube:

-Filled w air and gas escapes

Downward Tube:

-Filled with hydrogen and gas cannot escape


"Pop"

-Gas is ignited and rushes out of test tube and it rubs against glass which causes friction (sound)


Downward Test Tube:

Flammable gas escapes


Acidification Notes Post Lab:

-Phenol red changes color as you add CO2 into H20

-The CO2 turns to carbonic acid lowering the Ph of the H20

-Calcium tablet is more soluble in cup w straw

-Because the Carbonic acid lower the Ph and dissolves calcium faster


Ocean Acidification:

Normal ocean Ph is 8.1-8.4

Ocean's Ph has decreased 0.1 (about 25%)

Lower ocean Ph means sea animals w shells will not be able to make a shell (Crabs, Shrimp, Clams, etc,)
