Homers Push Huskies Past Vestavia
Hewitt-Trussville Softball had a record setting performance Monday night as they hit seven home runs to down Vestavia 22-14. The Huskies are now 7-2 on the season.
Tate Moseley was 3-5 at the plate and hit two grand slams. Her opposite field blast in the fifth inning gave Hewitt the lead for good. Anyce Harvey went 5-6 on the night. She scored four runs and drove in two. Abigail Dorsett had four hits and Hannah Borden hit a long home run in the fifth. Crystal Maze and Abigail Inman had two hits each including a home run. Kaitlyn McDaniel added four hits and scored three runs.
The Huskies were down 5-0 early, but rallied to take the lead with six runs in the second inning. Vestavia was up 12-9 as the game entered the bottom of the fifth, but Hewitt exploded for nine runs in the inning. Hewitt will host Springville on Tuesday night.
This past weekend, the Huskies went 3-1 in the Spain Park Tournament. Hewitt defeated Hatton 3-2, Northride 13-1, and Spanish Fort 7-5 before falling to eventually tournament champion Sparkman by the score of 5-2.
Baseball Picks Up Home Win
Coach Jeff Mauldin's club returned home on Monday night and defeated Briarwood by the score of 5-2. Ed Johnson pitched three strong innings to pick up the win. He struck out five Briarwood batters. Carson Skipper had a big night at the plate as he smacked two doubles, drove in one, and scored three times. Tyler Mauldin had two hits and drove in two runs. Michael Fowler also added two hits for Hewitt. The Huskies are now 8-2 on the season.
On Saturday, the team traveled to Vincent and captured a 6-0 win. Michael Fowler set the pace as he pitched six strong innings. Fowler allowed just two hits and walked just one while striking out 12 Vincent batters. He also had a double to help his cause. Tyler Mauldin had two hits on the day and had one RBI. Creed Parker added a double and an RBI.
Hewitt will be back at home Thursday night as they host Southside-Gadsden. First pitch is set for 6:30pm.
Girls Tennis Stays Unbeaten in Region Play
The Hewitt-Trussville Girls Tennis teams improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in 7A Region 4 play with a 9-0 win over Sparkman Friday. The Huskies will host Oak Mountain Tuesday and Altamont Wednesday.

Boys Tennis Wins Region Match
The HT Boys Tennis team defeated Sparkman 8-1 on Friday to improve to 9-1 overall on the year and 3-0 in 7A Region 4 play. The Huskies will step away from region play this week as they host Altamont on Wednesday.

Boys Golf 3rd in Auburn Tournament
The Boys Golf team went on the road for the first time in 2018 and had an impressive tournament in Auburn. The Huskies finished 3rd out of 16 teams. Hewitt improved 18 shots from day one to day two. They had a 319 team score in the first round then a 301 team score in round two.
Dawson Atkinson had a solid event to lead the team. He opened with a round of 75 on Friday then shot 74 on Saturday. Dylan Webb was also consistent as he shot a 76 on Friday and a 74 on Saturday. Christopher Edwards rebounded from round one to fire a 75 on Saturday.
Hewitt will next compete at the Calera Invitational on March 12 at Timberline Golf Club.
Outdoor Track Opens 2018 Season
The Outdoor season has begun for Hewitt-Trussville Track and Field. The Huskies had a successful first event as they competed in the Five Team Battle Royale at Mountain Brook. The Boys’ team finished 2nd and the Girls’ team finished 3rd. Hewitt will be back in action on March 8 as they host the Trussville 7-Way Meet.

Girls Soccer Continues to Display Tough Defense
The HT Girls Soccer team traveled to Auburn Friday night to take on Auburn High School. Hewitt showed its dominant defense yet again and came away with a 2-0 win. Jordan Lynn scored both goals for the visiting Huskies. The HT defense has yet to allow a goal this season, and they were excellent on the road Friday night.
On Monday, Hewitt battled with Area foe Huntsville and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. The Huskies fell to the Panthers in penalty kicks to fall to 5-1-1 on the season. Coach Nick Holt's team is now 1-1 in Area play.
Boys Soccer Preps for Area Match
The Hewitt-Trussville Boys Soccer team (2-3-2) is preparing to host Huntsville in a key Area match on Wednesday night. The Huskies are currently 1-0 in the Area after they defeated Gadsden City 5-2 earlier in the season. Wednesday's match is slated to begin at 7pm. The team will remain in Area play as they visit Grissom on March 12.
On Friday, the team traveled to Auburn and took a tough 3-2 loss. Brandon Kirkland scored both Hewitt goals.
Middle School Baseball Still Unbeaten
The HT Middle School Baseball team remained undefeated as they won four more games this week. On February 27, the Huskies defeated Southside-Gadsden 11-2. On March 1, the team hosted Oak Mountain and captured a 7-1 win. On Saturday, Hewitt hosted a good Clanton team and won both games of the double header by the scores of 7-4 and 5-3.
The Huskies, now 8-0 on the season will visit Thompson for a double header on March 6.
HTMS Softball To Return Home
The HT Middle School Softball team has started the 2018 season with a 5-0 record. The team did not play last week, because the only scheduled game was rained out. The Huskies will be at home Wednesday as they host Homewood at 4:30pm. Hewitt will also host Liberty Park on March 12.
Middle School Tennis Competing Well
The Middle School Boys and Tennis teams continue to work hard and compete in the 2018 season. This week, the Girls team defeated Homewood 8-1 and the Boys team dropped a close match to the Patriots by the score of 5-4. The teams will travel to Berry on March 6, before returning home to host Irondale on March 12.
