Announcements
- Our Nurse's Office is seeing an influx in ankle and foot injuries during PE class due to students not wearing appropriate footwear. Please remember that a tied sneaker is required for gym classes. Students are participating in slip-on shoes which do not allow for ankle and foot support, which can cause injury. Students may bring sneakers and change them prior to PE class.
- Please remember to monitor your child for symptoms prior to school each morning and to send at least a couple of extra masks in his or her backpack.
- If you are a parent/guardian of a 6th grader you might be familiar with the middle school transition program that we started last spring. We are getting ready to host Part 3 of our program which will be our Clubs and Activities Fair. This will take place during your child’s lunch period on October 21st. There will be teachers/advisers and returning players/ members there to relay important information to our 6th graders about some opportunities they have, to get involved in sports, clubs, activities and school programs. Please encourage your child to get involved in some of the opportunities we have to offer. We look forward to solidifying this transition program and continuing to help our students really get connected to the school community.
Important Reminder About Safety at Dismissal
Student dismissal is a busy and hectic time of the school day. Please exit the property as soon as your child is picked up from the gate. Teachers have been informed that no conferences are to take place at dismissal in an effort to clear the area as soon as possible.
The teachers that are on duty at dismissal have the responsibility of keeping all children safe. When picking up your child(ren), please be mindful to keep siblings near you, closely supervise your children, and adhere to the direction given by the teachers on duty. We are all working together to ensure that we are dismissing students into a safe and respectful environment.

Stay Well Tips
Staying well during flu season requires a team effort! Our #1 goal is to keep students in school and minimize the germs in school. Be sure to monitor your children for any of the symptoms of COVID-19, cold, flu, or other illness before they leave your home. Students should not be sent to school when sick.
Some more tips are shared below from University Hospitals:
What's New in MES Counseling?
Welcome back to our 2021-2022 school year! We have already gotten off to a great start in our first couple of weeks. In middle school, we are excited that our restart plan has allowed the students to really dive into their middle school experience this year. Things like the utilization of lockers and all clubs and activities being up and running are just a few things that we are grateful to have this year.
This year we have some new faces in our MES Counseling Department that I would like to introduce. First, Ms. Harmony Schwier who is taking over for Mrs. Sanders as the Pk-4 counselor and Mrs. Fátima Mulroy who is joining us as our PreK-12 ELL Counselor. We are excited to be adding these talented counselors to our team.
Please view this Counseling Infographic to learn more about our counseling services and interventions!
Making Time for Mindfulness
By Ms. Harmony Schwier, Guidance Counselor PreK - 4
What is mindfulness? Mindfulness is paying attention to what is happening in the present moment.
By teaching mindfulness skills we help students increase their well-being and enable them to meet the stresses of the world with presence, self-compassion, and openness.
The benefits of teaching mindfulness to kids include:
- Increased focus, attention, self-control, classroom participation, empathy.
- Improved school performance, ability to resolve conflict, overall well-being.
- Decreased levels of stress, depression, anxiety, and disruptive behavior.
Some of these low preparation activities that you can do with your children are detailed below:
Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Pause, tune into the five senses, and share what you notice with your child.
Mindful Nature Walk
Five Finger Breathing
Have your child hold out one hand with their fingers spread, then slowly trace around that hand, up and down, with the opposite forefinger. Inhale as they trace up one finger and exhale as they trace down the other side
