Effective Effort Initiative Taking Off!

A new building initiative has kicked off at FFES! Grades 3-5 are learning what academic strategies to use to help them develop a growth mindset. We are teaching students how to put forth "effective effort" using these strategies; time, persistence, resourcefulness, commitment, focus and feedback. Each week, teachers nominate a student for using commendable effective effort strategies. Two names are drawn from a hat and the winners receives a Effective Effort Tee-Shirt, have their picture taken with Fred the dragon to take home as well as get featured on the Effective Effort bulletin board and receive a certificate!! All nominees will receive a certificate! These 2 winners will also get to be a FFES VIP for the day!!!

6th Grade Team Building

On Tuesday, February 25, the Grade 6 students in Mercury House at PCIS were treated to some planned team building activities in the gym. Mr. Foley and the PE staff directed the activities which included various challenges; a partner event with an obstacle course - that had to be maneuvered blindfolded! Mercury sixth graders truly enjoyed getting to work with and make new friends. They recognized that communication and teamwork was the key in working through these challenges.

Le Carnaval de Quebec

Three Plymouth South High School sophomores - Acacia Whitehead, Maddy Brown, and Bryn Adair - returned to PSMS to recreate a Quebec Winter Festival for foreign language students. Also known as Le Carnaval de Quebec, four contestants vied for the position of Bonhomme, the mascot of the festival. The sophomores put the contestants through several tests: tying a scarf, answering trivia questions about the festival, holding yoga poses, holding gallons of maple syrup (old French books), and taking as many selfies with others as possible. When the points were tallied, a new Bonhomme was chosen!

Hitting the Slopes

Back in December, Anna Lanning had an idea - she wanted to start a ski club. The organized and prepared 8th-grader approached phys ed teacher Mrs. Serriello, and together they met with Principal Murphy - over and over. Anna's hard work paid off Wednesday when 34 PSMS students were bused to Blue Hill for an afternoon of skiing and snowboarding. Lessons were available for those who wanted them. What an amazing opportunity for our students - especially those who have never skied before! Thank you, Anna, for your drive and leadership that made all this possible.
