PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
WEEK ENDING IN 03/04/2022
Dear OSES Families,
As many of you know, OSES was designated as the Most Diverse Public Elementary School in the state of Florida in 2021. Our school is full of different cultures, languages, and beliefs; it’s a big part of what makes us a special place to learn not only from books, but one another.
Clearly there are conflicts taking place in the world that deserve attention. I hope that OSES serves you and your family as a safe spot to express your culture and beliefs. We are grateful not only for the diverse student population, but also the diverse staff that exemplifies different cultures can work together towards a common goal.
Peacefully,
Mr. Singleton
Principal

Kindergarten has had a blast celebrating Read Across America this week by dressing up in lots of fun attire, and listening to/reading different stories.
In Social Studies we have been learning about different types of jobs people do and the tools they use for these jobs. We also have been learning about US currency. In science we are still focusing on force of motion.
Some reminders: Cooler weather is still here. Please make sure your child’s name is written inside of their jacket. We have lots of lost jackets this time of year!
Please also label water bottles as well :)

Mrs. Gajus’ math classes have been making great strides this year! The Pre-Algebra classes have completed 9 of the 11 units of study and will soon be starting a spiral review of all standards taught this year. The 6th grade classes have completed 8 of the 10 units of study for their course and will be ready to start their spiral review of all standards once those last units are completed. SUPER STEM THURSDAY
As some of you may know, Super STEM Saturday for OCPS was postponed. They have decided to have the schools hold their own individual events.
On March 10th, we will have a virtual event. The students below were chosen to showcase their work on critter comfort cottage, egg drop, energy inspired art, energy transfer machine, essay and vision board, junior solar sprint, mousetrap car, and/or water bottle rockets. If they choose to participate, they will need to do the following: join the Google Classroom for the event, create a Wakelet about their project and save it to the Super STEM Space, and provide feedback (reactions) to the other projects. The students listed below already have this project competed in the Virtual Energy Whiz or SECME Regionals. Some of these students are encouraged to also compete at Curtis Kinetic Energy Challenge (6th grade at the Science Center in March) and/or the Energy Whiz competition in Cocoa in April. All of our students are welcome to showcase their STEM experiences in this event. For more information, please check out the slide deck.
Here are our students that are invited to showcase their work: Anwita, Aiden (6th), Ajay, Makena, Diya, Deeharr, Atharv, Benjamin, Dhruv (6th), Neil, Akshara, Molina, Anahi, Aiden (4th), Arjun, Anay, Omar, Quinn, Aarini, Aarit, Ramsay, Anishka, and Soha. The students listed that participate will receive a medal and Free Pass to the Orlando Auto Museum (with the purchase of an adult pass.)
If you have any questions about this event or the Energy Whiz in April, please contact Mrs. Trujillo.
TESTING CORNER
Students in grades 3rd-6th recently completed the Reading and Math APM assessment. Please keep an eye out for your student’s score report coming home.
This week 3rd grade participated in a practice FSA Reading and 5th grade took their final Science PMA.
On Monday (3/7), 3rd-6th graders will participate in a practice FSA Writing assessment. Be sure your student is well rested and arrives at school on time. Students having to make up assessments are missing his/her regular instruction.
Families in testing grades (3-6) received an email this week about our school’s FSA Parent Information Webinar on March 10th. Please check your Junk Mail if you are interested in attending but did not see the email or reach out to Mrs. Carter at cayce.carter@orlandoscience.org.
