OLVCS Updates
September 25, 2020
Being Prepared
Dear Parents,
As we come to the 1 month marker of in-person instruction, it is clear that our school has been very blessed. I believe a major factor in our success so far the commitment of you, OLVCS parents/guardians, to using our COVID-19 symptom checklist and following CDC guidelines consistently.
In recent days, I have fielded a number of questions about how OLVCS would respond IF a student/staff member had a COVID-19 exposure. In response, I am sharing this flowchart created by the CDC, that helps explain the steps that could be recommended in the event of a positive COVID-19 case. It is our intention to use this flowchart as one guide in our response.
Additional points to know:
- We will share information about the exposure using our e-announcement email system and/or the School Messenger system through a recorded telephone message.
- The recommendations may vary and are subject to change based on the guidelines provided by the CDC, PA Department of Health, and the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown.
- If a student/staff member is positive for COVID-19, that does NOT automatically mean that our school will pivot to remote learning. We will consider all the factors regarding the exposure, as well as relevant guidelines, before making that decision.
- Additional information about OLVCS's Health and Safety Plan can be found at www.olvcatholicschool.org/returntoschool
Again, thank you for your support and understanding as we work together to help your student grow in mind, body, and the Spirit of Christ during this unprecedented time for education and the world in general.
Sincerely,
Chad Packer, MEd
Principal, OLVCS

Crusaders Take On DCC Cardinals on Friday at 6PM
The Crusaders fought a tough battle against BEA on Tuesday, but again came up short. As goalie, Luke D., had many saves, showing how his baseball expertise can translate into effective goalkeeper skills.
Coach Venema commended all his players, noting that all played their hearts out and that he sees growth and learning each time they play.
Next game is Friday, September 25, 2020 at 6PM against the DCC Cardinals at Orchard Field (OLVCS's home field). Bring out your chair, mask, and blanket to cheer on our middle school team.

SJCA Girls XC Finish First: Vote for Them In CDT Poll
With a first place team win at the Red, White and Blue Classic last week, the Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy Girls Cross Country Team has been nominated for the CDT's Player of the Week.
Click on the button below to vote for the SJCA girls team.
Six SJCA Girls team members finished in the top 30 of 83 runners at the Classic. The SJCA Boys Cross Country team also had a strong showing at the invitational. Four SJCA boys team athletes placed in the top 30. The SJCA boys team placed 4th overall.
In Cross Country, it is not just an athlete's speed that is important, his/her placement (ie. 1st, 2nd, 5th, etc.) in a given race in comparison to the placement of runners of other teams also counts. This is why it is so remarkable that 10 SJCA athletes placed in the top 30 in the Red, White, and Blue Classic.
