A Message from the Principal
TRMS Community Member,
Last year, Taylor Road began our path to Personalized Learning. Fulton County School's personalized learning goal is for schools to collaborate with students, parents, staff, and the community to help design learning environments that ensure students leave the district with the skills needed to be successful in both college and careers. Our goal at Taylor Road is to improve motivation and engagement of students as we push forward in rigor, relationships, and engagement.
The TRMS Personalized Learning team has developed an instructional plan for personalized learning, aligned to our school's strategic plan. This includes the roll out of personal devices for each individual student. Every TRMS student will have the opportunity to receive a Dell Latitude 11 for use during the school year. Information about the devices will be sent out in the coming weeks. In the meantime, answers to device FAQ can be found here. Students are currently participating in a series of lessons on digital citizenship to prepare them for the new technology. Visit Common Sense Media for tools to use at home to support digital citizenship, and take a few minutes to view the video below.
Thank you for your continued support,
Ed Williamson
Principal

JA BizTown Volunteers Needed!
Dear Parents of Taylor Road Middle School,
We are excited to share that your student will be attending JA’s Chick-fil-A Foundation Discovery Center in JA BizTown this year! Imagine a generation of students armed with the confidence and understanding to take control of their futures and equipped to achieve their dreams. Junior Achievement transforms the student experience and prepares today’s youth for tomorrow’s economy! We would love for you, the parents and guardians of the students of Taylor Road Middle School, to share this experience with your student and volunteer as one of our impactful mentors.
Watch the JA Discovery Center Video to see it in action.
Parents make the BEST volunteers! Volunteers help us to bring the learning home for the students, allowing for families to use their shared experience. Your role will consist of guiding and mentoring a small group of students through JA BizTown, where students will learn how to run a business, earn a paycheck, and will even have the opportunity to purchase goods and services from within the park!
For 6th grade students, there are four days we are attending this year:
WHEN: Tuesday, September 20 to Friday, September 23, 2016 from 8:00 am - 2:30 pm
WHERE: The JA Discovery Center is located in Downtown Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center Building C.

Duke Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP)
Attention 7th Grade Parents and Guardians...
Since 1980, Duke University has sponsored the Talent Identification Program (TIP) for academically successful 7th graders. This voluntary program allows qualified students to take the SAT or ACT in the same setting as high school juniors and seniors, thus better preparing them for future standardized testing experiences.
Because Duke TIP scores are not utilized by Fulton County, Taylor Road's counseling department has changed the process for identifying 7th graders who qualify for the TIP program. If interested in having their 7th grader participate in Duke Tip, parents can access their child's scores via Home Access Center (HAC), if they attended a Fulton county school in the 5th grade and/or 6th grade. Students must have scored at the 95th percentile or better on their most recent standardized Georgia Milestones, ITBS, COGAT, CAT, SAT, or any number of other acceptable subtests. Applications should be directed to the TIP program. Additional Duke TIP information can be obtained by calling the TIP office at (919) 668-9100 or going to the TIP website at www.tip.duke.edu/7gts
Important TIP Facts...
•Registration costs $75.00 (or $30 for a student who qualifies for a fee grant/free or reduced lunch). See www.tip.duke.edu/7fees or contact the 7th grade counselor for a Fee Grant Request form.
•Duke Tip School ID: 250348-FA
The TRMS counselors can help with basic questions. Contact the 7th grade counselor, Alexcia Massey at masseyas@fultonschools.org, subject line: Duke Tip. Due to the high volume of requests, please allow 1-3 days for a response.
Save the date!! The Cotillion of Alpharetta is coming January 2017!!!!!
We are excited to start our classes on Sunday, January 29 at The Metropolitan Club! Come have fun with us while learning dance and etiquette! Registration will open November 1.
This is not your grandmother’s cotillion! The Seventh Graders will learn basic ballroom dancing and popular dance (Shag, Swing, Free Style, Line and Slow), as well as many important social and professional skills the students will need to know now and throughout their lives. The Seventh Grade class will culminate in a Parents Showcase displaying the Program as parents observe all their child has learned. Students will also enjoy a 50's Party filled with games, contests, dancing and pizza!
For Eighth Graders, the classes will review the basics taught in year one, and the students will learn many new dances including Latin, Swing and Hustle. An extensive Table Manners segment will further develop your child’s social graces. Dating, interviews and making conversation will also be covered. The Eighth Grade Program will culminate in a Dinner Dance that brings all of the students’ new skills into practice. New students are always welcome in 8th grade.
You can expect your child to gain confidence in our classes, and learn how to greet, shake hands and converse with adults—an all-important skill as the dating years approach. They will also discuss social media etiquette! But most of all, your teen will have fun! For more information, please contact: Valerie Macdonald, Program Director 770-781-5580 Valerie.cotillion@yahoo.com
We do need parent volunteers to help spread the word, send out invitations, etc. If you are a 7th grade parent and are interested in helping, please contact Valerie Macdonald. Thank you!
