WEEKLY UPDATE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT, DR. SHIBLER
Dear RPS Stakeholders:
As we continue to push through this pandemic, I am happy to report that our students are achieving well overall according to recent NWEA testing results. We will continue to use data to identify where adjustments are needed at the school, classroom, and individual student levels.
The mitigation strategies we are using to keep our COVID numbers down are working as evidenced by the numbers of students and staff requiring quarantine. Keep up the great work!
We continue to work on summer opportunities to be made available to close learning gaps and/or participate in enrichment activities. More info coming on this.
As part of the 2019 bond issue, we are building a new elementary school in the Saddle Ridge neighborhood off of Edgerton. We are in the planning phase of this project and look forward to sharing more information in the future on this exciting project. You may have noticed construction taking place at Carlson-Munger Stadium. We are finishing improvements to this facility, which is used for several fine arts and athletic groups.
And finally, for winter sports, we are following the MHSAA requirements regarding availability of tickets for spectators so we can keep those sports going. Feel free to contact the Athletic Department with any questions about sporting events.
Thank you,
Dr. Michael Shibler
Superintendent of Schools
NRMS STUDENT SCHOOL NEWS
NRMS STUDENT DROP-OFF REMINDERS
Dear Parents,
We have noticed morning drop-off has recently been extremely backed up on 10 Mile all the way to Northland Drive, creating traffic issues for the public. This is a reminder that drop-off begins at the Northeast end of the parking lot and all vehicles are to pull all the way through the drop zone to maximize the number of students exiting cars. Students are not to be dropped off at the main entrance or staff parking lot. Thank you for reviewing these protocols and the attached diagram to ensure all students arrive at school safely and on time. We appreciate your attention to this matter as safety is our first priority.
Sincerely,
North Rockford Middle School Administration and RPS Security

IF YOU'RE NOT FEELING WELL AT SCHOOL....REMINDER TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS
Please remind your child, if they are not feeling well, they need to let their teacher know and be excused to go down to the Main Office Health Room. Mrs. Bargwell will make a call to parents if necessary.
Students should not call or text parents from their personal phones.
Secondary Full Face To Face Attendance Reporting
The combination of one-to-one technology, our learning management system (Schoology), and fantastic efforts by our teachers in growing our virtual instruction practices has made education possible during these challenging times. Our remote and hybrid instructional models offered flexibility for students and families and as we transition back to face-to-face, we want to be clear on how staff will be supporting students moving forward while in full, face to face instruction. In-person student attendance is expected in our full face to face instructional model.
COVID Related Absence
Students that are unable to attend school due to COVID will be supported through live-streamed instruction via Google Meet, just as was done during hybrid instruction. COVID related absences include:
· Student is exhibiting symptoms and awaiting test results
· Student has tested positive and has to quarantine for a scheduled period of time
· Student was a close contact and has to quarantine
Absence not Related to COVID
Students that are unable to attend school for traditional short-term absences will utilize Schoology to participate in makeup work. A live streaming option will not be provided for students who are missing for non-COVID short term absences.
