Message from the Superintendent

Dear RFH Parents and Guardians,

We begin our Friday Update with some news from the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE): The New Jersey Department of Education will be requiring all 9th and 11th Grade students statewide to sit for the NJDOE-Required NJ Student Learning Standard Assessment (NJSLA) during the month of May 2022. The NJSLA assessment is 360 minutes in total duration, divided across four days – i.e., 90 minutes per day. The assessment will be used to monitor student progress in ELA, Math, and Science, while ensuring that all NJ public schools have met required student learning standards in the 21-22 Academic Year. The assessment will also identify those students who may be struggling with learning gaps in advance of the next school year.

Our academic supervisors strongly concur that the shorter bursts of testing over four days are more conducive to success for our freshmen and junior students. The schedule also offers minimal disruption to the integrity of instructional time for all RFH students, in that each class will run for 34 minutes. RFH successfully enacted a similar schedule during NJ Start-Strong Assessments last September and during NJGPA Testing for juniors this past March.

Due to the serious nature of this assessment, it is imperative for our freshman and junior students to be present for testing on scheduled days and to be offered a quiet and uninterrupted setting that will optimize student success.

To this end, Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School will be running a Board-approved, Delayed Opening Schedule to accommodate the NJDOE-Required NJ Student Learning Assessment with dates and times as follows:

Dates: Wednesday, May 18; Thursday, May 19; Friday, May 20; and Monday, May 23.

Times: Delayed Opening Schedule (34 Minute Class Periods)

7:45 a.m. – Freshman & Junior Students report to RFH

Period 2 10:18-10:52

Period 6 12:12-12:46

Period 7 12:50-1:24

Period 3 1:28-2:02

Period 8 2:06-2:40

To Recap:

  • Freshmen and Juniors will report to school at the normal start time of 7:45 am for testing each morning.
  • Students in grades 10 and 12 will report to school for a 9:40 am start.
  • Bussing will run as usual for 9th and 11th graders and a second pick up will operate on a delayed schedule for all other students.
  • Please note there will be No Senior Release on those dates.

Happy Spring Break! Just a friendly reminder that Spring Break begins today – Friday, April 15, 2022 – 12:07 p.m. dismissal. Wishing all of our students and families a well-deserved and restful week off. Classes at RFH will resume on Monday, April 25, 2022.

Sincerely,

Anne R. Facendo, Interim Superintendent
