Reflections From the Principal
Please check the new Advisory calendar for February. There was a change for tomorrow (February 3rd). All 8th grade students should report to the Aux Gym on Monday during JH Advisory. Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Foxworthy will be discussing freshman courses with our 8th grade students. All 8th grade Advisory teachers should escort their students to the Aux Gym.
The last couple of weeks we have seen too many students in the hallways during classtime. Please make sure all students remain in your classroom unless it is absolutely necessary for them to use the restroom or there is an emergency. We want to make sure all students are always supervised and accounted for. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.
Our PLC will look a little different this week, as we have educator and author Katie Powell scheduled to present. Katie is the author of Boredom Busters, a book packed with a wealth of lesson twists, games, and activities to keep students engaged with meaningful learning experiences. Mrs. Good had the chance to hear Katie Powell present at the Indiana Middle School Conference last semester and she said she was an excellent presenter who provides at least 10 ideas that you are able to use in your classroom immediately. We will all meet in the PLC room together for her presentation.
Enjoy the Super Bowl tonight and have a great week!

Great Things I Saw This Week
Next, Mr. Hall and Mrs. Spencer selected the first "Employee of the Month" for Mr. Hall's Adult Roles and Responsibilities class this semester! Ethen Campbell has been working extremely hard with cleaning tables after all lunch periods and folding/organizing clothes in the Mustang Mall. Ethen was awarded a Subway card and Starburst on Friday! Great job, Mr. Hall!
I enjoyed a quick visit to Mr. Kight's classroom this week! His students were in groups and creating a skit and journal about their voyage from NYC to Fountain County in the 1820's. Students had to apply what they had learned from their chapter readings/discussions to develop a plan for moving. Students were engaged, having fun, and applying knowledge from previous lessons. Great job, Mr. Kight!
Mr. Burney's class participated in "Eva Kor Day" on January 27th. Governor Eric Holcomb dedicated January 27th as Eva Kor Day in Indiana. Every school in the state of Indiana received a DVD and toolkit to educate students about the Holocaust. Mr. Burney showed the DVD about the Holocaust and the life of Eva Kor to his classes last Monday. Thank you, Mr. Burney!
Last but not least, congratulations to our choir students who participated at solo and ensemble contest on Saturday at Terre Haute North and earned the following placements: Kasey Kirkpatrick, Sami Krout, and Haley Webb earned Silver ensemble, Kiara Bennett, Hannah Estes, CJ Yager, and Mikeal Huff earned gold ensemble, Kasey Kirkpatrick earned Gold solo, Sami Krout earned Gold solo, and Hallie Swenson earned Gold solo and is also advancing to state! Congrats, Miss Pate!
Our CTE PLC group is working hard to collaborate on the IDOE Employability Skills! Great job, CTE teachers! Also, our Science/Social Studies PLC group is knocking out some great instructional work in collaboration!
Feature a Teacher!
Mr. Brian Turner

“Mr. Turner is an amazing teacher. Not only because of what he has accomplished, but also because of what he inspires others to accomplish.”
- Kasey Horton
“If it was not for Mr. Turner, I would not be where I am today. He continually pushed me to achieve my dreams, and has served as a mentor post high school. The time spent in his classes helped me grow academically, but more importantly, the life lessons learned as a young kid going to college, and now a young professional on the top of an industry. I am forever grateful for the impact that Mr. Turner has made in my life.”
