Principal's Message
Dear Oak Hills Families,
I hope you are enjoying the warmer weather! It’s been quite the spring with sometimes even a 30 Degree difference from one day to the next. I think we are finally out of the cold temperatures to what seems closer to summer weather.
I wanted to remind all families that the Beaverton School District and the Beaverton Education Association (BEA) ratified a new contract for 2016-2019. The agreement provides students with more full weeks of school and improves overall continuity for learning. Another important element of the agreement is providing teacher collaboration and professional development time to address gaps in student achievement and improve teacher practice. Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, the District will implement a 90-minute early release on Wednesday afternoons to allow teachers time to collaborate and participate in professional development opportunities. Oak Hills will be releasing students at 1:05pm.
Over the course of the next three years, nine additional student contact days will be added to the District calendar.
- 2016-2017: Add 2 student contact days
- 2017-2018: Convert 4 staff development days to student contact days
- 2018-2019: Add 3 student contact days
In preparation, all day care centers picking up students have been informed of this change. Additionally, Club K which is our on-site day care, will be housed in our cafeteria to accommodate for additional students especially on Wednesdays. Please check in with your specific day care and/or Club K to register your child for extended time on Wednesdays.
At the school level, we have been working on a school schedule that accommodates the early release on Wednesdays. We have also been working with the staff on professional development needs and collaboration goals. The draft schedule is a 5 Day rotation that includes additional time for PE and Music. Of course, there will still be technology and Library time. Students will have an earlier lunch and a shortened specials schedule on Wednesday.
Here is the link (English & Spanish) to the district calendar for next school year. Have a lovely weekend and don't forget to join us on Wednesday night at Burgerville for the PTO fundraiser.
