A MESSAGE FROM DR. HARRISON

Hello Legacy Families!

It was another great week here at LMA!

You may have noticed on campus on through our social media that it is DINO DASH TIME! If you are new to Legacy, we LOVE the Dinosaur Dash, and take great pride in being the highest participating secondary school three years in a row. We need your help to keep that title running for the 4th year! Sign up using the button below, and we will see you at the Dash!

We appreciate your ongoing support of Legacy Magnet Academy and look forward to a wonderful year as we partner together to deliver the best program to our students!

Thank you!

Silas Pham

Hi, my name is Silas Pham and I’m a senior here at Legacy, but of course, that much you already know. As for what you may not know about me, I’m in my 6th year of being a part of the VEX robotics competition, I founded Makers Club in my sophomore year, and I was a former track athlete at Foothill High School doing high jump and triple jump. The most important thing about me though, whether it be at one of my internships or just with the new partner I’ve been assigned for the latest group project, I like to think that everywhere I’ve been, I’ve grown and fostered a community and relationships with those around me into something that they can appreciate and value. Once I end my 4 long years here at Legacy, my plans are to go and pursue a BS degree and eventually, an MS degree in the STEM field meaning another 5 years minimum in school for me. I’m applying for many different majors at many different schools with majors anywhere from computer science to electrical engineering to artificial intelligence for business, so we’ll have to wait and see where I end up. As of right now, my dream college is Harvey Mudd College. It’s part of the Claremont College system, my dad went there when he was in his undergrad years, and I truly believe it’s somewhere I can thrive. I’ll be trying my best on those essays for the next few months and praying for the best, but even if I don’t get it, I’d be happy anywhere where I can get some good food. During my time at Legacy, I’ve learned quite a lot. Not just academically, but about who I am as a person. The biggest thing it’s taught me is to “ride the tide”, but when I say ride the tide, I do not mean to lazily go with the flow of things. In the real ocean, during low tide, riptide is strong, and it’s so easy to get pulled behind. During high tide, the water is deep and fatigue can put you in real danger. Legacy has taught me to adapt and persevere in my ever-changing environment, and that is something I will always bring with me. If I said I wasn’t nervous and had complete confidence in my future, know that I’ve been replaced by a robot. I’ve had regrets that will probably slow me down in my journey, but what I am confident in is my ability to push through and eventually make it out on top. In 10 years, I’ll be almost 28 years old! Basically a fossil at that point from my point of view, but I’m sure I’ll be just as dumb as I am now and hopefully not as broke. At 28, I’d like to have made a good living for myself: a job that I love, friends and family that care, a down payment on a nice roof over my head, and maybe even a car if the gas prices don’t keep rising.

Ryka Rohith

Hi, I'm Ryka Rohith and I'm a senior at Legacy. I have a deep passion for both dance and robotics. I have been a dancer since the age of 4, excelling in various dance forms over the years. In school I've been actively involved in Legacy's Robotics team since its inception in 2020, marking this year as my fourth consecutive year competing in Vex Robotics. Beyond school, I'm part of UCI's Biorobotics Laboratory, where I've contributed to the "Airstep" project, focusing on lower limb rehabilitation for spinal cord injured patients. My work involves developing a motor-powered passive mechanism that eliminates the need for manual assistance, along with implementing safety measures. I aspire to enroll in a four-year university and pursue a master's degree in mechanical engineering. My dream college would either be UCLA or UCSD. If feasible, I would also like to undertake a double major in business administration. Being a student at Legacy has instilled in me the importance of stepping outside my comfort zone and embracing risks to truly represent myself and expand my limits. I aspire to leverage the valuable skills and tools I have developed during my time at Legacy to achieve the goals I set for myself. As I embark on my final year of high school, I often feel uncertain about what lies ahead in the future. Nevertheless, I hope that my diligence and compassion will guide me toward the path I am meant to be on. Ten years from now, I envision myself securing a full-time position in my chosen field, and actively contributing to my profession while I aspire to make a positive impact on the lives of those around me and beyond.

Supporting the Arts

We want to extend a huge thank you to 12th grader Maya Albarian and her family. Their family recently suffered the loss of Maya’s uncle, and due to their generosity, Legacy Productions is the recipient of a generous donation from the Tustin Community Foundation in celebration of Keo Powell, a Foothill Highschool and Chapman University graduate, on behalf of the Powell, Albarian, Dormaier and Eggleton families. This donation will go to support our Dramatic Productions program. We are grateful for this support.

Challenge Success is Coming to LMA!

We are excited to be conducting a student survey with Challenge Success the week of September 25th. This survey will help us understand the student experience as it relates to well-being, academic engagement, and belonging. We look forward to sharing the results with our community and using them to inform decisions going forward. Please take a moment to review the Parent Information sheet linked below. You can also see sample questions and FAQs on the Challenge Success website linked below.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU REGULARLY CHECK YOUR EMAIL FOR UPDATES!

Are you (or your friends) not regularly receiving emails? MAKE SURE to check your Aeries Parent Portal!

1)Go to your parent portal CONTACT SCREEN and assign each contact "general and emergency" or "emergency only."

2) Be sure in every contact's screen, you have entered a cell # and email.

3)Any person you assign "general and emergency" will receive ALL school communication such as Weekly Principal's eNewsletters and automated telephone communication. This change also allows you to select the type of communication you prefer: email, phone, text, or all three if you prefer.

*The "type" of communication you select must have a corresponding cell, email address, etc. entered.
