Elementary Newsletter

From the Desk of Mrs. Buchanan-Rivera

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that summer months are right around the corner! This year has been rewarding in many ways. The students are inspiring to watch! I am so proud of their provocations, work ethic, and servant-hearts. Educators have helped students to make the impossible a possibility throughout the year. I have enjoyed being a part of their development and journey at TPCA! It has truly been a great year of learning and spiritual growth!

Elementary Honors Night

On May 23, 2016 there will be an honors ceremony for first through fourth grade students:

  • First and second grades will be honored from 6:00pm- 7:00pm.
  • Third through fourth grade awards will follow from 7:30pm-8:30pm.

This ceremony will honor student participants of the ACSI Speech Meet, Mathletes, and Spelling Bee. Perfect Attendance for the year will also be recognized as well as yearlong high honor roll (all As) and honor students (AB or combination of As and AB quarters all year). Teachers will also recognize a small group of students for various leadership awards that tie to biblical foundations. All awards recipients should receive an invitation this week. However, please save the date if the description of the event applies to your student.

Important Reminders

ISTEP testing ended on Friday, May 6, 2016. Reports should hopefully arrive prior to the beginning of the fall semester. Keep in mind, schools did not receive scores until October last year. This is the last year for ISTEP+.

Multiage Applications are due on May 9, 2016. Miss Tenille Marowelli will serve as the 3/4 multiage teacher for the 16-17 school year. She has already taught 2 and 3 grade within Traders Point. Thus, she is familiar with many students already and excited about her new calling for the 16-17 school year.

NWEA: The end of the year testing for NWEA will occur from May 9-16, 2016. Students will complete the assessment during their Media course to avoid an alteration of the instructional schedule.

Retirement Celebration: Please come out to pray, hug, and love on Mrs. Lehr as she begins her new journey as a retired educator. This will take place at TPCA in the JK Stevens Commons on May 13, 2016 from 2:30pm - 4:00pm.

Book Fair: For one day only, there will be a Buy-One-Get-One (BOGO) event on May 18, 2016 in the TPCA gymnasium. Please mark your calendar!

National Put on Purple Day: May is Lupus Awareness Month. Lupus is an autoimmune disorder that has personally impacted my family and close friends for several years. I am very active within an Indianapolis chapter and national organization as an advocate for awareness which helps newly diagnosed patients throughout the world. Therefore, faculty, staff, and students are more than welcomed to wear purple to support awareness on May 20, 2016.

The Kindergarten Closing Program will be held on May 24, 2016 from 6:00-7:00pm in the JK Stevens Commons.

End of the Year Chapel: May 23, 2016 will mark our last chapel of the school year. We will worship together and also recognize the names of students who exemplify Fruits of the Spirit by having them stand. This will not be a formal ceremony. If you did not have an opportunity to hear Mr. Evans last month during the Parent Coffee event, you may have missed his discussion regarding the restructuring of the Fruit of the Spirit Awards. Galatians 5 lists the fruits of the Spirit as gifts that appear for Christ-followers as they mature. Many of our students may not yet consistently display fruit and many are not yet Christians. It is our desire to have awards that all students are able to earn. Therefore, we are acknowledging students at this time, but will recognize students in different ways in the future. Participants of the Honors Program on May 23, 2016 will note such changes.

Track and Field Day is tentatively scheduled on May 25, 2016. Weather can certainly be a factor, but the intent is to host on that particular day. Please look for notifications from homeroom teachers for more information as the day approaches.

Postponement: The co-curricular team would like to postpone their showcase until next year. It was mentioned in the last newsletter that the team intended to devise an event for families, however, due to scheduling conflicts we look forward to hosting this new event next school year.

Thank you for your continued support! Please look for a notification to come before the end of the year that will list summer learning activities and initiatives.

God Bless,

Erica Buchanan-Rivera
