Student Decision Path
Guidance on COVID-19 for Georgia College Students
We know, as August approaches, that you have concerns about the start of the semester. This Student Decision Path outlines in simple terms how students should proceed if they suspect they have been exposed to COVID-19.
As you prepare for your student's move to Milledgeville, we ask that you help us encourage Reason, Respect, and Responsibility among our students. Take precautions now to self-isolate as much as possible and discuss preventative measures with your student. While we cannot eliminate all risk, we have put precautions in place to facilitate a safe, healthy semester. It will take all of us in the Bobcat Nation exercising personal responsibility to ensure a smooth start.
The Student Decision Path guides Georgia College students through the steps to take if they suspect they have been exposed to COVID-19.
- If a student is displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 (see CDC guidance), they should immediately isolate away from campus and follow their healthcare provider’s or COVID-19 Public Health Hotline (844-987-0099) instructions for quarantine and recovery before returning to campus. Students should notify their professors of their absence and make arrangements for completing coursework.
- Students sharing a residence (residence hall room, apartment, or house) should behave as a family unit and follow the same isolation guidelines listed above if one member of the family unit becomes ill or tests positive.
- If a student is not displaying symptoms but suspects they have had indirect contact (greater distance than 6 feet for an extended time, or within 6 feet briefly) with someone with COVID-19 outside of their family unit, they should self-monitor for symptoms and practice social distancing and preventative hygiene. They may call Student Health Services (478-445-5288) for a COVID-19 test or obtain one from a healthcare provider.
- If a student is not displaying symptoms but suspects they have had direct contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more) with someone with COVID-19, they should isolate away from campus, obtain a COVID-19 test, and follow their healthcare provider’s or COVID-19 Public Health Hotline (844-987-0099) instructions for quarantine and recovery before returning to campus. Students should notify their professors of their absence and make arrangements for completing coursework.
