Mi Child Protection Registry
Are your children safe while online? Michigan families, especially minors, are becoming inundated with advertisements from alcohol, tobacco, pornography, illegal drugs and gambling marketers through different internet and cell phone inboxes. To reduce these influences on youth, the State of Michigan offers a free program to stop adult advertisements from reaching e-mails, text messages, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter. The Michigan Child Protection Registry, like the federal Do Not Call List, is a free do-not-contact service for Michigan’s families and can be located at www.ProtectMIChild.com.

Classroom Opportunities
Adopt a cow!
Forget the guinea pig. How about adopting a 1,500-pound dairy cow for your classroom mascot? Don’t worry about finding a pen big enough to hold her. The photos and stories we’ll send you about her life on the farm will make her come alive for your students!
The Discover Dairy “Adopt a Cow” program is an exciting, year-long experience for your classroom. Throughout the program, you’ll get an inside look at dairy farming and be paired with a calf from a dairy farm in Michigan. You’ll find out what her name is, when her birthday is, where she lives, and how the farmer takes care of her. You’ll also receive progress updates, photos of the cow, live chats from the farm, activity sheets for your students, suggested lessons that follow Common CORE standards, and even opportunities to write letters to your calf!
Register for this upcoming school year is open and ends September 15, so make sure you share the program with a teacher you know! Visit www.discoverdairy.com/adopt to learn more about the program.
Grant Opportunities
Building Healthy Communities: Step up for School Wellness Application open
The Building Healthy Communities: Step Up for School Wellness (BHC: SUFSW) program is recognized by health and education leaders as a successful and innovative school-based program that empowers school health leaders, educators, administrators, families, and communities to improve the health and well-being of students and staff. The program helps school wellness teams create a healthier school environment and build a culture of wellness that supports moving more, eating healthier, and improving mental health and overall well-being. Creating healthier environments can lead to the development of lifelong healthy behaviors that reduce the incidence of obesity and undernourishment, combat absenteeism, address trauma, and nurture a more productive teaching and learning atmosphere. More information on Building Healthy Communities can be found here.
Additional Building Healthy Communities Grants are available:
- Building Healthy Communities: Reducing Health Disparities in Elementary Schools is focused on addressing the social determinants of health that have contributed to wide disparities in many communities across Michigan. Entire school districts have been invited to participate in the program to allow for a coordinated effort to facilitate sustainable, systemwide changes focused on healthy living opportunities, access to healthy food, safe places to be physically active, and education and policies throughout entire communities.
- Building Healthy Communities: Engaging Middle Schools through Project Healthy Schools creates a culture of wellness enabling middle school students to increase physical activity, eat healthier, improve mental health and understand how nutrition, activity and well-being influence their lifelong health and learning. The program includes social and emotional health for students, staff wellness, before- and after-school programs, community outreach and engagement, and an enhanced focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. Applications are due August 22, 2022
