Parent and Staff Bookclub
We are preparing for our 2nd Parent/Staff Book Club of the year. Our book selection this time is How Children Succeed by Paul Tough.
Why do some children succeed while others fail? The story we usually tell about childhood and success is the one about intelligence. Paul Tough argues that the qualities that matter most have more to do with character: skills like perseverance, curiosity, conscientiousness, optimism, and self-control.
Books are available for check out in the front office. Once again, we will provide two sessions to get together and discuss the themes/arguments within the text.
Tuesday, February 20 from 1:30 - 2:30
Thursday, February 22 from 6:30 - 7:30

Yearbook wants YOU! We would love to see any photographs that our parents, teachers, or family members have taken at any of our events or any time you were at the school. You can help us capture this moment in our student’s lives by following the attached instructions explaining how to share your images with us and be part of the lasting memories! The deadline to upload your images is March 18, 2018, to give our creators time to meet the yearbook print deadline. All images are welcome!
Dedication Ads
5th Grade Families!
Your babies are moving on to the next amazing chapter of their lives. There is no better way to show your 5th grader how proud you are than to surprise them with a dedication ad! You can create a special, personalized 1/8th ($20) or 1/4th ($50) page message to your students online at www.balfour.com using the same login you created when purchasing your yearbook. Be sure to follow the instructions all the way through to submit your ad. You will receive an email confirmation from Balfour. This is the only sure way to know your ad was completed and has been submitted correctly. The deadline for dedication orders is January 31, 2018. Don’t miss out on commemorating this important time in your child’s life!
Yearbook Cover Contest Deadline Extended
Due to the unexpected extended holiday weekend, the clarification of the contest rules was only posted on social media. The PTO wants to ensure this is fully communicated and is extending the contest deadline to Monday, January 22. We’ve also had a few questions regarding the original rules and wanted to clear up any confusion. The sky is the limit to your child’s imagination. In keeping with the theme, “We are Groves”, your child should draw whatever it means to them to be a part of Groves Elementary and any words or phrases that go with their drawing and vision may be used.

Message from a few Grizzly Students
This is Ellie and Alissa with a special announcement.
Hi, I’m Ellie and over Spring break I’m going on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. I’m on a mission to raise money for their education system. To do that my friends and I will be hosting a bake sale next Saturday in Eagle Springs.
This is Alissa. If you would like to help us out please consider donating some baking supplies we need for the bake sale.
Starting today there will be a donation box located by the front office. The supplies are hot cocoa powder, lemonade powder, brownie mix, peanut butter, powdered sugar, and pie crust like Keebler Ready Crust.
Every donation you give will help the students in the Dominican Republic. Go Grizzlies!
