Career Planning
The needs of today's economy have changed tremendously. The service industry drives our market now, and this has changed how we need to approach preparing for employment. Almost half of all workers enter jobs that they are overqualified for. When exploring your career path, be sure that you are getting the minimum level of education necessary for the job. This will not only save you time and money, but will also ensure that you able to grow and advance in your career path. With many companies offering tuition assistance, it make a lot of sense to have someone else foot the bill to get you the next level of education you need.
It's not too early to have conversations with parents about what you what to do for a career. Using your time in high school to explore your interests is also a great way to save even more time and money. An undecided major at college costing $25,000 a year is not a good plan. Seniors have internship opportunities available, and juniors are encouraged to do several job shadows throughout the school year. For all of your questions, from where to start to what to do next, please see Mr. Larsen.
Senior Jacob Plantz Competes in Two All-Star Games
North - South All-Star Game
I was fortunate to be able to get selected to compete in the North vs South All-Star game Friday April 26th. The game was played at Olentangy high school. My team consisted of very talented players and I made friendships with my new teammates. It was fun to be able to play against the best of the best throughout Ohio. My team lost by three in overtime.
Ohio - Indiana All-Star Game
I was nominated to play in the Ohio vs Indiana all-star game by various coaches throughout district 7. My teammates from Ohio were considered the best hoopers from their districts. The Indiana kids were talented players as well. The game was played at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Team Ohio came out with the win with a score of 94-88. I received MVP of the game. It was a perfect way to end up my high school basketball career.

Senior Drew Bench Competes in Ohio North - South Game
The North - South game was an amazing experience. I was honored to represent the Genoa Comets this year in the game. We practiced from Wednesday through Friday and played Saturday. The amount of people I met and became friends with was tremendous. I was able to play with some of the top athletes in the state and the game wasn’t easy. The North (my team) won by 2 and I was lucky enough to be a captain for the North.

Catching up with Comets ~ Michael Deiter
This is a new section that we have added to showcase and highlight the wonderful things Genoa graduates are doing in their selective career fields. The college and career ready component is something that Genoa high school is striving to focus on as we prepare students for a future. We hope that these thoughts and highlights shared will help spread some wisdom obtained by Genoa high school past graduates. This week we are featuring Michael Deiter a 2014 graduate. Here is what Michael had to say.
What was one good memory from high school that students today may enjoy hearing from your high school days?
Beating Eastwood my senior year. We played lights out and the fans were awesome
After high school what path led you to where you are today? (After HS until Today)
I was lucky enough to get a scholarship to play football. From there I was able to get a degree and have a great collegiate career.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to play in the NFL. I was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 78th pick overall.
What would be one word of advice that you have for high school students now at Genoa?
Have Fun. Even though its two words.
*Thank you to Michael for taking time to answer a few questions and best wishes in the future.
