NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a national organization established to recognize the top academic students as well as develop leadership, character, service and build on their academic strengths. The GPA requirements are high and must be recommended by teachers on the Academic Advisory Board.
There will be a membership fee of $10, once initiation has been completed. Members will be expected to attend monthly meetings (or more frequently - depending on events planned), participate in fundraising events, as well as the out-of school (and off FT property) service projects.
Look for more information to come! I am very excited to sponsor this academic club along with our fabulous staff!

From the clinic…
We made it through another school year. That was a really long winter and I am glad its over. With I-STEP behind us, hopefully we can all push through these last 4 weeks of school and enjoy our summer.
Some housekeeping notes: Remember that I cannot send home any meds with your student. If there is any medication left in the clinic you will need to pick it up prior to the end of the school day on May 23rd. The only exceptions are inhalers which I will attempt to send home with students. The last day of school is full of activities and historically I have sent for students to pick up their inhalers but they don’t always show up to claim them. Epi-pens will need to be picked up by parents. I will not destroy those unless they are expired. If you have any questions you may contact me at the clinic 803-8207. I will start wasting the meds right after dismissal since it is my last day to be here before break and we cannot keep the meds over the summer. You are welcome to pick the medication up at anytime this month during normal school hours.
Sports Physicals will be done at the High School on Tuesday, May 1st from 6-8 pm. Physical forms can be downloaded from the IHSAA website or found in the front office. The cost of each physical is $20 payable at time of service. Please call Ryan Brammer, Athletic Coordinator with any questions at 317-803-8096.
I wish you all a safe, restful summer. I will miss a lot of the 8th graders next year. I wish them all success as they move on to High School. Kids remember to MAKE GOOD CHOICES!
I will see the rest of you in August!
FTMS West Library News
As the end of the school year approaches, the media center must collect all outstanding materials and/or fines to begin inventory. If a “lost” item is returned to the media center, the fine will change according to our policy. Fines are $0.05 per day per item. I will calculate the new fine amount and send a receipt home if the item is returned. There will be no more than $5 charged for an overdue (books that have been returned).
Since it is near the end of the year, your child’s fine will transfer to the next school year. Your child will have their account “restricted” until the fine is resolved. We strive to provide literature and resources for students’ research projects, book reports, and leisurely reading. It is my hope that each student can be responsible for the items they checkout. We discuss this topic at length throughout the year.
Library fines can be paid by cash or check. Checks can be made payable FTMS West. If you have any questions, please email or call the Library Media Center during school hours at 317-803-8170.

Proud to announce that both the FTMS West and FTMS East choir and band received the ISSMA All-Music Award.
To receive this award, organizations must meet the following requirements-
1) A Soloist and Ensemble must receive gold rating in group III or higher at the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble competition
2) A Jazz organization must receive a gold rating at the ISSMA jazz competition
3) A concert organization must receive a gold rating in group III or higher at the ISSMA concert competition.
This was the first year in school history for FTMS West and FTMS East choirs to receive the All - Music Award.
This was the second time for both FTMS West and FTMS East bands to receive this award. Last year was the first in the history for both schools for band.
I believe Franklin Township is the only school corporation in the state to have four organizations qualify for this prestigious award.
Only 47 middle school bands in the state qualified. Of the 47 middle school bands, only 6 of them are from Indianapolis, 2 of which are FTMS East and FTMS West!
Only 10 middle school choirs in the state qualified! Of the 10 middle school choirs only 2 are from Indianapolis, FTMS East and FTMS West!
Come and experience an Evening with the Arts at FTMS West on Thursday May 17th. You’ll see the delightful artistic talents of Mrs. Gaffin and Mr. Scott's art students as you peruse through the Art Show from 5pm-6pm. Art guild students will also be showcasing their stunning work through the year and their own personal art work. Included will also be a collection of the wonders of Art Therapy.
As if the night could not get any better, from 6pm-7pm we invite you to feed your ears with the musical talents of our FTMS West bands, conducted by the one, the only, the legend, Mr. Fyffe. Come enjoy the hard work that our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands have accomplished through their 2017-2018 school year. Included with also be magnificent performances by the Jazz Band.
