The District Benchmark Assessment in Reading is not a graded assessment, but the data is used to help us see which standards students students have mastered already and which standards students still need support with.
For the Reading Quiz this Wednesday, students can refer to their notes on Text Structure in their reading notebooks and on their Google Classroom accounts. They can also refer to page 1 of the attached document.
THIS WEEK'S SKILLS & CONTENT
5RI5: Compare and contrast the overall structure (ie: chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts or information in two or more texts.
Writing
5W1a: Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which ideas are logically grouped to support the writer’s purpose. (Opinion Writing)
Grammar
5L2c: Use a comma to set off the words yes and no (e.g., Yes, thank you), to set off a tag question from the rest of the sentence (e.g., It’s true, isn’t it?), and to indicate direct address (e.g., Is that you, Steve?).
Social Studies
SS5H4e: Describe the effects of rationing and the changing role of women and African Americans or Blacks; include “Rosie the Riveter” and the Tuskegee Airmen.
SS5E1a: Describe opportunity costs and their relationship to decision-making across time (e.g., decisions by individuals in response to rationing during WWII).

Last week students began creating questions that will help them dive deeper into their exhibition topics. This week students will begin researching those questions with their teammates. They will also be researching some on their own.
