Boxes of Love
Dear Families,
Each year our teacher’s union reaches out to support the women and children of the Underground Railroad of Saginaw. The Underground Railroad is a safe haven that provides services for victims of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and human slavery.
In the last year, the Underground Railroad of Saginaw provided many valuable services to our community, including:
Providing 13,164 safe nights in shelter
Answering 2,392 calls to the crisis helpline
Providing 5,102 hours of childcare
Attending 2,392 court hearings and assisting in filing 610 PPOs
Provided 4,977 individual and group counseling hours.
Each year, our school district collects items to donate to the women and children in need, including:
full size bottles of shampoo & conditioner
deodorant
hair ties, accessories, and products
toothpaste and toothbrushes
full size lotions or body sprays
soaps and body washes
feminine hygiene items
Other hygiene/self-care items...
We will be collecting items to donate February 11th-February 18th. Items can be dropped off in the office or given to your child’s teacher. Please have your donations in by Monday, February, 18th. Thank you for your continuing support of our community and families in need.
Respectfully, Hemlock Federation of Teachers

Freckle is Here!
We are now using a computer program in the classroom called Freckle. With Freckle, your child has been able to practice Math, ELA, Social Studies and Science at his or her own ability level!
You and your child can access the program in a couple ways:
1. Access the program online at freckle.com using Google Chrome as your browser,
selecting “Student sign in” at the top of the page.
2. Access the program on an iPad with the free app: freckle.com/app
Your child will login using their first and last name as well as their class code (provided by teacher).
Once they have logged in, it is important that this practice is done independently, without any
help at home. If they are having difficulty with a concept, and the video tutorials on the site do
not help, your child may either stop or go on to another section. We want the information that I
gather from Freckle to be a true picture of your child’s Math, ELA, Social Studies and Science
skills.
Thank you for supporting your child’s education at home.
