A Note from Mrs. Mathe

First and foremost, I hope that you and your family enjoy the 4 day weekend! There is no school for students tomorrow or Monday. I encourage you to do something as a family that brings you joy and make those memories! For me, now that my oldest daughter is in high school, I have become much more aware of how time flies and have become focused on making the most of these *bonus* days.

Today was the last day of the 1st nine weeks. Next week, you will receive your child's first report card of the school year. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's progress in school, please contact their teacher so we can work out a plan to support your child's academic or behavioral success.

Class Picture Day

Next week is class picture day. We missed this tradition last year and are excited to be able to capture this memory again this year! On October 13th, students will have their picture taken with their class and teacher. Information will come home today regarding ordering these pictures.

Also on October 13th we will offer an opportunity for fall picture retakes. This will be the only opportunity for these retakes if you are not satisfied with your child's pictures, or if your child missed picture day. On October 13th, if you want your child to re-take their fall pictures, please return the original picture packet in it's entirety. If your child missed the original picture day, you may go online to purchase your child's picture packet (or request a paper order form from your child's teacher). Please be sure to let your child's teacher know that they will need to take pictures this day. We do not send every child to the photographer, so if the teacher is unaware, your child will not get sent to take their photo.

How to Order Online:

1. Go to http://online.phototexasphotography.com

2. Use online order code: PTPUC

3. Select desired package and follow instructions to pay

Referral Requests for Gifted and Talented Testing

Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or campus staff.

It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. This assessment will be administered to all 2nd grade students this month.

If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at conferences. Referrals will be accepted through December 17, 2021. You may request a referral form from Mrs. Nixon. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.

The Conroe ISD Police Department is pleased to present the 19th Annual Coats for Kids Drive for the children of Conroe ISD.

We will have a collection bin in our front office if you would like to donate.

Car Rider Line

Just a few things to touch base on about the car line:

We thank you for your patience as we have had some "hiccups" with our car rider system the last couple weeks. We hope that we have worked it all out so our normal way of scanning cars works consistently from here on out. We know that our "old school" way of calling cars over the radio is not as fast as scanning students, but it is efficient and safely dismisses students when the scan system does not work. Again, we hope that our system works correctly from here on out, but do appreciate your kindness when it is not working. Trust me, we don't like when the car line lasts past 3:35 either!

One other reminder: Please be respectful of our neighbors in the Cochran's Crossing neighborhood. We ask that you enter the car line from Cochran's Crossing Rd. and not from the neighborhood entrance as when cars wait there to cross, it blocks the exit from their neighborhood. We appreciate your help with this matter!

Walk to School Day

On Friday, October 15th, Powell students will be participating in the International Walk to School day. The focus of the day is to encourage our students to “get out of the cars and onto the sidewalks” not just for the event day, but also for the rest of the school year. This event encourages more physical activity, more family involvement, and a better, safer, cleaner environment for all of us. For those students who live too far away from the school to walk, Mrs. Owens will meet you at Capstone Park at 7:30 and you will walk to school from there. If you want to meet Mr. Kirbo at Cat's Cradle and Research to walk to school at 7:30 you can do that also. So, put October 15th on your calendars and we will SEE YOU ON THE PATH!
