MAY 18TH: AWANA CLOSING CEREMONIES

Next Wednesday, May 18th, the AWANA Closing Ceremonies will be held in the sanctuary. Please have your children here at 5:45 dressed in their uniform. (They do not need to bring AWANA books or Bibles.)

  • Puggles and Cubbies will report directly to the stage. (Please take these little ones to the bathroom first!)
  • Sparks and T&Ters, look for your team leaders just inside the doors of the church where we will line up to walk in together by teams.
  • Parents, you may be seated in the sanctuary where we will begin the ceremony at 6:00.
  • Just following the ceremony, we will have a COOKIES & MILK RECEPTION to celebrate your children's hard work this year! Please join us!

If your child is just a few verses away from finishing his book or book review, we would LOVE for him to be able to complete it and get his award at closing ceremonies! In order for your child to receive his award, please have him recite his verse(s) to an AWANA leader Sunday morning (upstairs AWANA leader names are at the bottom of this newsletter) and then text Amanda Jeffcoat, our club secretary, at 803-447-7705 or Michelle Crowson at 803-606-5688 to let us know that your child has completed his book. We are extending this bit of grace this year knowing that families get busy and the end of the year kind of pops up all of the sudden! I have a child who lost some momentum during the year but is all of the sudden willing to put in the extra work to finish. Let's encourage our kids to finish the race!

NIGHT OF WORSHIP

Our annual “Night of Worship” is this Sunday night, May 15th, at 6 pm at our Lexington campus. The worship choir, praise team, and band will be leading our congregation in an incredible night of worship with music, testimony, and communion. For the KIDS that come on Sunday night, there is a special activity created just for kids to help them engage with the music. It’s always a lot of fun! If they complete it, they’ll get a special treat from Mrs. Katy Schrodt at the end of the concert!

Books of the Bible Memorization Help

It's not too late to download the "Books of the Old Testament" and "Books of the New Testament" from the "Wee Sing Bible Songs" album on iTunes! These songs have helped many people, young AND old, to commit these books to memory. Even if your child will be working on this in the coming year, consider putting it on your playlist so that they can be listening to these songs through the summer months! Memorizing the books of the Bible will benefit your children so far beyond passing a section in their AWANA books! It will be a tool that they use the rest of their lives!

AWANA Handbook Music!

Does your child need EXTRA HELP WITH MEMORIZING BIBLE VERSES? Look no further than the iTunes Store! You can purchase Handbook Music for each of the books in AWANA. Each of the verses is put to music, which is so helpful for your children as they memorize! I know that our daughter, Rivers, loves listening to her verse songs on the iPad to help her learn and review her verses each week. Search "AWANA" in the iTunes Store (select the NIV version) to find your child's handbook verses set to music!

AWANA "Committed to the Journey" Video

The www.awana.org website is a great resource of videos and articles to encourage you as a parent in your role to, "Train up a child in the way he should go..." (Proverbs 22:6a). In choosing to have your child in AWANA on Wednesday nights, we know that you are choosing to make your child's spiritual growth a priority. This is a commitment that will affect their life for eternity as they hide God's Word in their hearts letting it shape their lives and, one day in the not so distant future, the lives of their children, grandchildren, and many more generations to come! Please watch the video below to be encouraged that you made an excellent decision in committing to bringing your child to AWANA on Wednesday nights this year!

2015-16 AWANA Parent Information

We are so excited that you have chosen to have your child participate in AWANA this year at Northside! AWANA is a worldwide ministry that has been serving churches and communities for over 60 years. It’s vision long ago was based off of a question: “Lord, what can we do to reach the children of our community with Your message of grace?” AWANA is local and it is personal. We want this to be an outreach that your children will be excited to invite their friends to! Our leaders are volunteers; “...ordinary people touched by God with a special love for children.” Please pray for your leaders and get to know them. We pray that they will become a special part of your child’s life in the coming year. (Great and Mighty Things, Eggar)

Here are a few important items to start the year:

AWANA begins at 6:00 and ends at 7:50

Please enter through the main Kid’s Worship doors each evening up until 6:00. After 6:00, please use the “back door” entrance. Dismissal will begin promptly at 7:50 at the back door. You are welcome, however, to come into the Kid’s Worship Room at 7:35, using the back door entrance, if you would like to see your child receive their awards and hear reminders for the next week’s club. We ask that you stay behind the barriers during this time for safety and order. At the end of club, we will have the children find their parents and proceed to the front exit doors where your tags can be matched for a safe exit.

AWANA Uniform

Please make sure that your child has their proper uniform on each week. This includes their:

1. AWANA t-shirt

2. Running shoes (required for participation in Game Time)

3. Bible

4. AWANA book

AWANA Point System

Children receive points for each of the items above as well as points for Sunday school and church attendance. They also earn points during Book Time when they “pass sections” (say their verses by memory.) Lastly, they earn points during Game Time. All of these points will come together for a grand total. The team with the highest total points is the winner for the night, and that team will receive a prize. This form of healthy competition spurs children on to come prepared and to fully participate in all of the activities of the evening.

Bible Verses

If your child is new to AWANA, they will go through entry booklets: Flight 3:16 (Sparks) and Start Zone (T&T.) In addition to completing these booklets, they must come to AWANA twice in order to become a full-fledged member. They are then presented with their new AWANA handbook and can begin studying verses at home to prepare for club. (Handbooks must be paid for in advance.) The AWANA curriculum is self-paced and needs to be completed in order with the exception of the “bring a friend” and “missionary” sections. We want your child to develop an enjoyment for learning the Bible and it’s truths. Please encourage your child to study their verses and help them to understand the meaning of the verse as well. If your child is prepared to say his verse and he has said it to you, please place your initials in his handbook beside the verse. Additionally, Sparks books come with an audio CD in the back of the book. This is a great study tool for your child as they can listen to the CD while doing a puzzle or other quiet activity at home. If your child memorizes verses more easily when they are set to music, you can purchase the music for coordinating books in both Sparks and T&T in the iTunes Store for $10. Simply search "AWANA" and select the NIV version.

Safety

The safety of your child is of utmost importance to us. Always print a security tag at one of the kiosks downstairs before bringing your child upstairs, and place the sticker on the front of your child’s shirt. Restrooms upstairs are strictly for children. Adults must use the downstairs bathrooms. It is encouraged that one parent remain on the Northside campus while their child is in AWANA in case a situation arises where the parent is needed. If you leave campus, please make sure that we have your cell phone numbers on file in case of an emergency.

We are so excited to begin working with your children this year, along with our amazing team of leaders, and we are here to answer any questions that you may have along the way.

Blessings to you,

Daniel and Michelle Crowson
