Term 3 - Issue 12 11th August 2022
PUPIL FREE DAY FRIDAY 19th AUGUST
PUPIL FREE DAY MONDAY 22nd AUGUST
PRAYER
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
A reminder that we have two upcoming PUPIL FREE DAYS on Friday 19th August and Monday 22nd August. For both days, there will be no staff on site as Friday is our yearly Catholic Day and Monday will be a chance for staff to deepen their faith connection.
Catholic Day is a day provided to every Catholic School in CEWA in recognition of the Sacramental commitments outside of school hours. On Monday, the staff will be participating in a faith retreat focused on Christian Meditation. This will provide us the opportunity to prayerfully reflect on our own personal faith journeys and bring that experience to our classrooms. Camp Australia is available to families who require care for their children. Please visit the Camp Australia website for further information.
NEW FAMILIES
Welcome to the following children who are starting in our school in the next fortnight:
Sebastian Galang (4B)
Tendai Munondo (4W)
Lisa Zaitseva (KB)
We hope you feel very welcome and enjoy joining the SFOA community!
CATHOLIC PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL
Congratulations to Taicia Ashley and Sophia Guelfi who received a Certificate of Merit for their Piano Solo at their recent performance at Spirit of the Arts. Our Christian Dance team was lead beautifully by Mrs Mieschbuehler and received and wonderful report for their performance. Good luck to the Choir and the other individual performers over the coming weeks.
SCIENCE WEEK
Next week, we will be celebrating Science week. Mrs Coker has coordinated a number of activities during Science lessons and some lucky children will also visit Irene McCormack Catholic College for their Birds of Prey exhibition.
BOOK WEEK PARADE - WED 24th AUG
It's everyone's favourite time of the year again, Book Week and the Book Week Parade!!!! This will take place on Wed 24th August at 8:45am in the hall. The 2022 theme for Book Week is 'Dreaming with Eyes Open'. The parade is always a great opportunity to get dressed up and parade across the stage. We are encouraging children to bring the book that they are dressed from and providing prizes for best homemade costume in each class. We will be streaming the event for those parents unable to attend via this link:
Thanks to Mrs Howell, two BOOK WEEK Author incursions have also been organised for our children. The author James Foley will be here for the Year 3-6 children on the 16th August, while Performance Education will entertain our PP-2 on the 20th August.
BOOK FAIR IS BACK!
In Week 7, for the first time in many years, the BOOK FAIR will be back!!!!! This is a Scholastic supported event where children can purchase books before and after school with their parents in the library. Stay tuned for more details.
ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
An early reminder to parents of our SFOA Athletics Carnival, which will take place on Friday 16th September. Should the weather be unsuitable, the backup day has been scheduled for Wed 21st September. This year, we will be holding the Jumps, Throws and 400m for our Year 3-6 children on Wed 14th September. Parents are encouraged to attend both the Wed (Year 3-6 Jumps, Throws, 400m) and the Friday (Athletics Carnival whole school). More information will be provided by Ms Hamilton closer to the date.

We wish all our Year 6 Confirmation Candidates well as they receive the Sacrament next Thursday, 18th August at St Andrew's Parish. As the last Sacrament of Initiation, they will become full members of the Catholic Church. Thank you to Mrs Freeman, Mr Clarke and Mr Gorman in supporting parents in preparing their children for this significant event.
A big fortnight for our Australian athletes at the Comm Games with a tally of 67 Gold Medals. The focus switches back to the pointy end of the AFL season. For the Dockers supporters, good luck on that top 4 spot, whilst us Eagles fans will start preparing for 2023!
Have a great fortnight.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Congratulations to Dayna Neill for her solo guitar performance on Monday for the Spirit of the Arts Festival! Dayna performed a piece called 'Booster Seat' and received a great report. Well done also to Lucy Zaehner who participated in this category. Both girls showing potential to wield the axe as a rockstar in the future! May be a Slash or Joe Satriani in our midst (apologies for my dated guitar references).
