2017 DCPS Summer Opportunities
Local Academic & Enrichment Opportunities for DCPS Students!
A Message from the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
On behalf of the School Board and Dinwiddie County Public Schools' staff, let me officially welcome you to the 2017 summer of learning!
Throughout the school year our staff and students are afforded numerous opportunities to learn in new and innovative ways. The successes of these efforts have generated great interest in formally coordinating learning activities that take place during the summer months. In response to these requests, this booklet is intended to provide the Dinwiddie Community (students, staff, families, county administrators, residents, etc.) with a resource for accessing learning opportunities offered by numerous sponsors during the summer months.
I hope you will find this booklet to be a unique resource as you schedule your summer of learning. Please be certain to check back often as new activities will be added as they are submitted by event sponsors.
Thank you for your interest in the DCPS' Summer Opportunities of Learning. I look forward to hearing about your experiences and spending another summer learning alongside you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kari Weston
Assistant Superintendent for Instruction

Keep Learning Alive in the Old Dominion This Summer
Research shows that children who read for pleasure in the summer do better and forget less when they go back to school. And it's not just in reading. Kids who don't read over the summer can slide backward in all subject areas. This means the summer months and other breaks from school offer great opportunities for families and caregivers to help improve reading and writing.
