Ruby Bridges Elementary- Where the Stars come to shine!
Hello Families...
Hello families, and welcome to Week 4 of our school year! It's great to see our students ease back into school and classroom routines, and it's just as great to have your continued support with school routines and procedures (see reminders below). Ms. Kim and I are looking forward to continued "get to know you " moments with our Stars and are so grateful to have students that model the 4Bs-Be respectful, Be responsible, Be safe, Be a friend- and that demonstrate being their best selves!
Speaking of Ms. Kim, let me take a moment to introduce our fabulous Vice Principal, Ms. Kim. Ms. Kim comes to us from New Haven Unified School District where she served as a classroom teacher, grade level mentor, and most recently vice principal. She is excited to join Ruby Bridges and looks forward to a year of learning and fun with our students. She is dedicated to ensuring a school community where students feel safe and welcome. She is a strong believer in providing a loving environment for all of our students to be able to succeed, as love is key for rigorous learning to occur. She thanks the community for a grand welcome. We are Ruby Stars!

Life Skill Focus for September: Cooperation
What does cooperation look like?
People who are working as a team and cooperating with each other:
- listen to each other without interrupting
- encourage everyone to join in
- are willing to hear and accept the ideas of others
- are willing to change roles in the group, eg. may be a leader sometimes and a follower at other times
- recognize the skills and strengths of others
- don't compete with each other
- discuss problems calmly
- show respect for each other
- take responsibility for their part of the task
- are willing to work towards the success of the group rather than their own individual success
Ruby Stars show the 4 Bs- Be safe, be responsible, be respectful, be a friend!
Ruby Bridges students, faculty, and families believe all students can be STARS by following the 4Bs ! Following the AUSD Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) system, we strive to Be: Safe, Responsible, Respectful, and a Friend to All. These expectations are taught, modeled, learned, and practiced at Ruby Bridges.
September-school-wide PBIS focus areas and behavior expectations:
Arrival and Dismissal- walking to and from safely
Cafeteria/respect property- remain seated; clean behind self
Basic behavior- indoor voices, following the 4 Bs, waiting calmly
Courtyard/line- 3 point touch following recess; walk calmly to line
Acknowledgements for following the 4 Bs:
Star Cards and lunchtime drawings
Positive acknowledgement
Shout outs during morning announcements
Classroom incentives
