Mcdonald's BTS Meals - A memorable treat for our children!

"I have many faults and I have many fears, but I am going to embrace myself as hard as I can, and I’m starting to love myself, little by little." - Kim Nam Jun, RM of BTS.

What an empowering message it is for our children to love themselves for who they are! This was part of the remarks by BTS' Kim Nam Jun (RM) at the UN General Assembly launch of Generation Unlimited which aims to tackle issues on global education. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the "We Purple You" team for their awesome efforts in crowdfunding donations from Singapore's ARMYs and friends. With the funds raised, they purchased 80 McDonald's BTS Meals for our children at our Clementi and Bukit Merah centres!

Many of our children are huge BTS fans and they were very thrilled to receive their special Hot Lunch meals. It was the perfect way to welcome the weekend!

Back online for Home-based Learning but better prepared!

Due to the tightening of COVID-19 measures in our nation's Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), all our

centre-based group activities had to be suspended from mid-May to June this year. Nonetheless, our essential services still had to go on. Our centres continued to stay open for one-on-one tuition and homework supervision by our qualified teachers and selfless volunteers. We also continued to provide Hot Lunch and groceries for any hungry child and families in need.

We also made the decision to quickly move our group tuition classes online. Our students are already lagging behind in school, and they will be further disadvantaged if they miss out on Home-based learning. While there were still significant challenges faced by our children, including some not having conducive environment at home for learning, we were inspired by

their positive attitude and enthusiasm during the online classes. We were also fortunate to have a steady pool of volunteers who came forward to provide one-to-one virtual coaching for our weaker Upper Primary and Secondary students. The students feedback to us that they valued the sessions a lot as they have not only brushed up on their academic knowledge but also learnt life skills which will have long-term impact on their lives.

We would like to thank our many donors who have stepped forward to sponsor laptops and IT equipment over the past year, as it has aided our children in their Home-based learning during these challenging times.

Groceries Support for Disadvantaged children and their families

We are extremely thankful to all our donors who have come forward with cash contributions to support our families during the ongoing COVID-19 situation, providing them with grocery vouchers for their daily necessities. Our children are immensely grateful too and have expressed their gratitude through their artwork. Some of the cards are pictured here.

Felicia's family is an example of how our families have tremendously benefitted from groceries support. Felicia is a well-spoken and polite 8-year-old student. She lives with her mother and 3 other school-going siblings. Felicia's parents had a turbulent marriage and her mother eventually had to undergo an acrimonious divorce. Her father has not been in the picture for many years and does not provide any form of financial support to the family. With 4 school-going children under her care, Felicia's mother has struggled to make ends meet, taking on 2 part-time jobs to support her children despite her multiple health conditions like hepatitis and frequent asthma attacks. She cleans the tables and trays at Subway and does stocktaking at Daiso. As her medical condition has recently worsened, she is unable to work as much as she used to. Nonetheless, the resilience of Felicia's mother is admirable as she continues to find sources of income to support her children despite her medical condition. She is grateful for the support rendered to tide her through her financial difficulties.

This would not have been possible without the timely support rendered by our donors who come from all walks of life, including corporate partners and individuals. If you would like to support our beneficiaries like Felicia, pls reach out to us at info@wishingwell.org.sg

Crowdfunding Campaign - Provide our children with a holistic education

At Children's Wishing Well, we believe that not every child fits into the traditional school model where the primary focus is on attaining academic excellence. While we acknowledge that grades are definitely important, the diverse strengths and unique needs of each child should also be recognized. Our Children Enrichment programme adopts a whole-person approach where each child is supported with their daily living necessities, food and nutrition, academic guidance, life skills (such as public speaking, financial literacy, etc) and non-academic training (such as sports, art, music, etc).

You too can help us realize the aspirations of children from low-income families and disadvantaged backgrounds. Support our holistic programme by making a contribution of any amount at https://www.giving.sg/childrens-wishing-well/children_enrichment_programme_-_holistic_education

We thank you for your love and generosity!

Your contribution counts!

Against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, adaptability in the face of adversity is key and we have tweaked the services we provide to respond to the most pressing needs of our families. It is of utmost importance that no child goes hungry and always has something nutritious to eat.
