A message from the Principal-Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
This week's Habit is Habit #6-Synergize. For this habit, we think of solutions that are better than what either of us had in mind. When we display this habit we think of creativity, cooperation, diversity, and humility. We are able to value differences and seek third alternatives. During the month of February, we've been learning about some famous black composers and musicians in music class. This is a great way to practice Habit 6 as we learn about diversity in our music.
If you are a parent of a student on Open Enrollment, please make sure that you fill out Open Enrollment forms ASAP. Remember that they are approved on a first-come, first-serve basis. Don't get left out!
Things are warming up this weekend, so be sure to get outside and enjoy nature!
Have a marvelous weekend,
Mrs. Bookman
Principal

Habit 6 - Synergize
Synergize, means when two or more people work together to create a better solution that neither would have thought of alone. It’s not your way or my way, but a better way. Synergy is taking good ideas and making them better by working together.

Zoom Clarification for In-Person Learners
If your child has COVID symptoms or is exposed to someone at home with COVID symptoms, and cannot attend school, please notify the office immediately.
A student with COVID symptoms is not required to login to class to live stream if he or she is ill; however, you have the option of having your child live stream if you feel that your child is feeling well enough to be online. If they feel well enough and will be logging in, please let your child’s teacher know so that the teacher will let him/her into the Zoom session.
If your child is quarantining they are expected to be logging into all of the classroom Zoom sessions throughout the day. If your child is home on quarantine and cannot login for any reason, you should call your child off school like you would any other day. If you have any questions please let me know.
If your child is off of school for anything not “COVID” related, he/she will not be permitted to join a Zoom session.
A message for our remote learners
- The next material pick-up/drop-off date is March 1st from 9:30-1:30. Drop off the yellow envelope with any work your child may have to turn in. Even if you do not have something to return, please bring the envelope. We will give you the red envelope with new work.
- Please keep the office informed if your child will be absent from the live streaming. This is important for attendance purposes. Also, it is important for your child to log in on time so the teacher can let your child into the Zoom session. If your student is late, he/she may not be able to get into the session.
- Future pick-up/drop-off dates are:
- March 15
- March 29
- April 19
- May 3
- May 17
- June 1

Counselor's Corner

Hello Field Families!
Internet and technology safety is a crucial conversation to have with your student! Setting expectations and boundaries is important with students so they know what is safe for them and what is not. The more you have an open dialog with your students about technology, the more they will be willing to confide in you and come to you if there is a problem. Here are some tips for setting those expectations: 1. When developing a plan for technology use, consider your child’s input. Although you are the parent and ultimately are the one to set and enforce expectations, getting input from your child can help them to feel valued in the process. A great way to do this is to create a technology plan or contract that you both contribute to. 2.When talking about expectations for technology, it is important again to involve your child. Ask your child what he/she thinks the consequences for misuse should be. Establishing these expectations ahead of time will allow for fewer arguments and misunderstandings if/when something does happen.
3. Again, it is important to keep an open dialogue with your child about technology. Check-in frequently to see how your child is doing and if they have any questions.
If you have any concerns please feel free to contact me! Also please check out my website to sign up for coffee with the counselor and or to contact me for your child's needs! School Counselor's Corner

Crayola and schools across North America have banded together to help kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. Suffield Elementary will now take part in recycling markers that no longer work. It’s a super easy project to help our environment! You can send in any brand of markers, sharpies, dry erase, and highlighters. Once we collect the markers, they will be shipped to a facility that repurposes them so that they are kept out of the landfills.
