Havelock North Primary School 3rd August 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
I trust you all enjoyed a great weekend. The Room 6 & 7 deck project was completed on Sunday with a great group of helpers on board. Nick Sowman, Ben Redmond, Josh Shanley, Stuart Taylor and Stuart Moore all contributed to what is a fantastic resource for our kids. These gentlemen were well supported by an eager bunch of kids too which was great. Maurice Smith also provided some new trellis for the vegetable garden which looks amazing. Thank you so much team for your outstanding generosity and community spirit.
This term we say a big welcome to our new students. Well done to Waldo Burgoffer for making such a positive start to life at Havelock North Primary.
A reminder that Learning Conferences will be taking place from tomorrow (Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th August). School will finish at 12:30 pm on Wednesday. Please contact the school office urgently should you require your child to stay at school until 3 pm on that day. Thank you!
As mentioned in Friday's email, bookings closed last night to allow teachers time to prepare for interviews. Please contact teachers directly should you wish to make an appointment at a time which is more suitable.
A reminder that Campbell Street is still closed to through traffic this week. It is great to see a number of people dropping their children off at Duart Road. Hopefully, things will be back to normal next week. We will keep you posted.
On Wednesday the 18th August from 5:30 pm -6:30 pm we have a Hui to organise our Hangi which will take place in week 8. More information will be shared next week.
Have a great week everyone.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS
Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will be sending home your child’s Individual Photo Access Key to view and order their photo’s online.
Orders made before Midnight on SUNDAY 22ND AUGUST 2021 will have FREE DELIVERY.
Please do not lose this key as the school does not keep a list of these.
Headlice
Unfortunately, headlice are doing the rounds again in local schools. We ask all families to please check children's heads and take action as necessary. Please be vigilant as this has been an ongoing problem and we would like to eradicate these re-infestations. Thank you!
2021 PEAK TRAIL BLAZER ENTRIES OPEN
Entries are now open for the Peak Trail Blazer 2021. You can enter online HERE https://eventplus.net/PTB21
The Peak Trail Blazer is one of our main school fundraising events and is a lot of fun for our kids and families.
This year we are selling the t-shirts online through the entry website page and we have several package deals available for families. The Peak Trail Blazer T-shirts can be worn as school uniform in the fourth term and will be handed out to classrooms on the first day of term four. So please get entering and ordering your t-shirts. The support is much appreciated.
We will be running a t-shirt slogan competition again this year. Classrooms will get forms next week and your amazing slogan ideas can be popped in the box at the school office.
The Peak Trail Blazer is a fundraising event, which supports the school and a charity in the community. Over the past 11 years, the event has raised over $200,000. This year 70% of the fundraising will go towards upgrading our school turf and the other 30% is going to support Re-Source, which is an amazing charity that keeps recyclables out of landfills and gives them to families in need in our community. Re-Source is growing by the day and they need help with storage and shelving, so the Peak Trail Blazer is getting right behind them. So please support the Peak Trail Blazer and ENTER now! Remember entries for the Tainui Trail are capped and sell out, so we encourage you to enter early.
If you would like to help support the event in any way please contact Catherine Wedd on 0212886770 or peaktrailblazer@hnps.school.nz
For more information about the charity we are supporting please visit their Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/resourcehb
HNI Open Evening
A warm invitation is extended to attend HNI's Open Evening on
Thursday 19 August from 6.30 pm
To assist with planning for 2021, it will be greatly appreciated if all applications for 2022 are received by Monday 30 August.
HNI representatives will shortly be visiting schools to talk with Year 6 students and to offer an invitation to whanau to attend our Open Evening on Thursday 19 August from 6.30 pm.
We invite interested students and whanau to view our digital prospectus and to complete either the in-zone or out-of-zone enrolment forms online. Please visit hni.school.nz to find these resources under the Enrolment tab. Hard copies of the enrolment forms may be collected from the school office.
We expect to have approximately 15 places for out-of-zone students in Year 7 and none in Year 8. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school's home zone. A ballot will be held if the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places. The boundaries of our school zone may be found on our website.
Applications are invited for out-of-zone places and must be received by Monday 30 August. If a ballot for places is required it will be held on Monday 6 September and parents will be informed of the outcome within three school days.
We look forward to meeting you at the Open Evening.
