Welcome to the first edition of this year's Vista Views. Alta Vista's school newsletter will be "published" approximately every two weeks and will provide information about upcoming events and highlights from some of the special moments happening in our classrooms.
The first three weeks were a busy start to the school year, but we've already settled into our learning routines. As I walked through classrooms last week, I couldn't help but be impressed with the level of student collaboration. Regardless of the age or content area, students were working together and learning from each other in a caring environment. Alta Vista is a very special place, filled with dedicated teachers, staff, and families -- all focused on supporting our students.
I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome I received as I joined the Alta Vista community. I'm looking forward to many years working together to provide an exemplary learning experience for your children.
All the best,

School Site Council Nominations
On September 12th, you will receive an electronic ballot to fill the open position on Alta Vista's School Site Council. According to California Education Code, School Site Council (SSC) provides meaningful consultation during the review and development of the Comprehensive School Safety Plan and Single Plan for Student Achievement, as well as input into the development of the District Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). SSC members serve a two-year term and attend four meetings per year. If you would like to be placed on the ballot, please email Cathy Bailey (firstname.lastname@example.org) or notify the office no later than September 10th at 3:00 PM. Thank you.
Perimeter Fencing Update
Want to know the latest about the plans for Alta Vista's new perimeter fencing? Joe Ayala, Union School District's Director of Operations, will be attending our next Home & School Club meeting on September 11th to talk about the addition and answer any questions. All Home & School Club meetings take place in the Alta Vista Staff Room and begin at 6:30.
