The 22-23 CST Family

Week of 1/23

Dear CST Family,

We packed a lot into a 4-day week last week. Boys' basketball had a couple dates, we held a parent enrollment night for our current 6th and 7th grade students, and capped off the week with a high-energy pep rally! The week ahead is even more filled as basketball continues but there are two music performances with our 5th grade guests (band and orchestra) on Tuesday and Thursday, a district parent presentation on screen-time (Screen Sanity), and auditions for the spring play on Friday. Of course, we'll now have a championship RED FRIDAY as well (Go CHIEFS!).

I'm looking forward to a great week. Go Wildcats, Go Chiefs!

Administrative Intern

I want to introduce an administrative intern who'll be with us all week. Mrs. Katie Cox is a teacher at Indian Trail and is in an administrative leadership program for the district. She'll spend the week with us for an administrative field experience. Students will be made aware of this as well and I'll encourage them to give her a warm welcome. This is a homecoming for Katie as she started her career at CST 18 years ago before moving to IT in 2010 when our junior highs (7-9) converted to middle schools (6-8). Welcome Mrs. Cox!

First Home BBB Game: CST Sporting Event Reminders

At CST we promote positive fandom and sportsmanship. Students are instructed to cheer for our team and not against the other team. Therefore, "airball" or "scoreboard" chants or negative comments toward referees are examples of behaviors we don't allow.

We expect our adult fans to follow what we promote to our students. Fans are in attendance to cheer on the team and not to help coach or help ref the games.

Thank you for your support in promoting and demonstrating positive sportsmanship for our student fans and athletes.

First home game is Tuesday vs Summit Trail.

MySAEBRS (BSEL assessment) THIS Week

As you may remember, parents were given the opportunity (via district email) to opt-in their child to take the MySAEBRS board approved Behavior and Social Emotional Learning (BSEL) assessment in November. Students whose parents opted their child in will take this assessment in the coming week using the schedule below. The assessment itself will be taken during WIN time and should last no more than 5-10 minutes. Students who were not opted in will not be a part of this process. If you opted in your child but prefer now that they do not take the assessment, contact your child's counselor and we will ensure they are not called to take it.

  • 6th graders on Tuesday, Jan. 17
  • 7th graders on Wednesday, Jan. 18th
  • 8th graders on Thursday, Jan. 19th
  • Makeups on Friday, Jan. 20th.

Pennies for Shoes

The official CST count for the Pennies for Shoes campaign is $4,469.26…wow! This is an improvement over last year by $617.26. For the record, this total is the highest of any school in Olathe…what an amazing effort by our community. On Friday (1/13) our top 3 classes had an open gym/ice cream celebration and our school will be recognized at an upcoming board meeting. In total, Olathe Schools raised $32,592.91 to surpass the $30,000 district goal.

Nice job, CST!

8th grade: For the planners out there...

...mark your calendars for the 8th grade "Night of Recognition" on Tuesday, May 23rd at 6pm. This event is for all 8th grade students. More details to come in the 4th quarter.

Traffic Reminders

With colder weather we have less walkers/bikers and more vehicle traffic. Please plan accordingly and allow extra time for morning drop-off. Your child should have their items readily available and conversations finished prior to stopping so exiting the vehicle can be as efficient as possible. This helps the line not back up and maintains a constant flow of traffic. A few other reminders to assist with safety and efficiency...

  • Those dropping in the front of the school may pass vehicles in the activity drop-off on the left
  • If dropping off at the activity entrance, please do not pass others who are dropping off at the activity entrance to then merge back into the same activity drop-off lane--this creates a safety issue
  • Form 2 lines for afternoon pick-up--students may cross at the front cross walk with CST staff only...do not encourage your child to run across traffic or parking lot.

Reminders for Walkers and Bike Riders

Please help us reinforce with students the best sidewalks to use upon arrival for walkers/bike riders (seen with the purple arrows on the map below).

  • Students from east of Mur-Len should cross at the 159th/Mur-Len light and walk/ride toward the football field. They will avoid having to cross all vehicle traffic in the parking lot by doing this.
  • Students coming from Lindenwood should take a left upon reaching the CST property and use the sidewalk next to our open field on the west. They should not cross exiting traffic onto 159th from the CST parking lot.
  • A new bike rack was placed at the doors west of the front entrance.
  • Students should exit the building using the same routes. PLEASE talk with students about crossing 159th at the light/cross walk...for their own safety, they should not cross 159th at any other location.

Thank you for your support as we promote safety and efficiency.

We need donations for our maker Space in the Library!!
