Third Grade News from Mrs. C

Tidbits From the Teacher
Hi Everyone-
We are closing in on major holiday season and field trips! Thank you for getting all money and permissions in on time.
On Tuesday, the school is doing a one day coin collection for the RRISD Coats For Kids initiative. If you have a spare change spot in your house, you might ask your child to throw it in a baggie and bring it to our classroom. It's a great way to help out students who need jackets for the upcoming "colder than usual" winter!
We've had 3 confirmed cases of strep in our room. Please keep a close eye on your child and really check out symptoms when he/she is not feeling so great.
If you need to look at grades: Here is the link to more information about Home Access! Teach your child how to check his/her grades. It's a handy skill as they get older.

nothing! We have everything we need right now!!
Thank you Carmen and Jessica for helping me in so many ways! You have no idea how much I appreciate those big and little things you do for me and the class.
What We're Studying and Learning...
Reading- We begin to identify and understand the purpose for expository text features. Ask your child what text features they have discussed with the class and how these features help the reader.
Writing- We will finish our current unit on Poetry. After that, students will be working on communicating their thinking on different topics. This may be an opinion, an explanation, or a view point. Transition words will be taught and 5 paragraph organization. Ask your child what explanation or opinion he/she is writing on.
Math- It’s a big week in math! We are starting division using what we know about multiplication. We’ll use our knowledge of x10, x5, x2, and x4 to figure out the answers to division problems. By the end of the week, you can ask your child to give you a fact family for a multiplication or division equation.
Social Studies-This week we will be learning more about citizenship in social studies. The students will be working with groups to complete different activities for citizenship. Ask them what is a trait a citizen shows/has?
