EPSD9 Community Newsletter
News & Updates that impact our community, March 2022
Greetings District 9 Community,
As you may already know, the Oregon Department of Education’s guidance for K-12 masking changes on March 11th at 11:59 p.m. Masking will become optional for all staff and students effective March 12th. Some staff and students will continue to wear a mask or face covering for various reasons. Know that, EPSD9 supports your choice either way.
The ODE RSSL framework was updated last week. We have updated our protocols to reflect these updates. Click here to view the new ODE/OHA guidance slide deck for EPSD9.
We look forward to welcoming students on Monday, March 14th with the new “masking optional” guidance. Please remind your student to respect the choices of others as we move through this transition.
I would like, once again, to thank you for your support, flexibility and patience as we have worked together through the challenges of keeping our children in school.
Respectfully,
~Andy Kovach

EPSD9 School Board, February Recognition of Eagle Rock Elementary Staff and Students
The following students and staff were recognized last week for their outstanding work by our School Board. The Board members in the photos below are Matt Stone and Emily McIntire.
Words from Eagle Rock Elementary:
Students
Kolbie Ledbetter:
Kolbie’s eager enthusiasm, high aspirations, and core values are quality contributions to not only our classroom but to our whole community. She is beyond pleasant, extremely caring, and precisely attentive. Her respect for elders and teachability is a dream of her past and future teachers.
Kolbie is the kind of friend everyone needs. She’s always there to help and listen to her classmates. She goes out of her way to include ALL classmates. She has the effort, skills, compassion, and knowledge to improve the world. Her exemplary qualities make her a truly outstanding student.
Colby Stockton:
Colby is one of the hardest-working students in our school. His work ethic and attitude are second to none. Colby’s attitude and perseverance made him an easy pick for the student of the year. He is kind and considerate, well-liked among staff and peers, and is simply a joy!
He always has a smile on his face and a great attitude. He tries his best and is always ready to help out in any way possible. These traits can take him far in life. He is very deserving of this honor.
Staff
Heather Marrs:
Heather Marrs is the rock of Eagle Rock! She is professional, passionate, loyal, and hard-working. She truly cares about this school and each and every student and staff member that is a part of it. She exudes a kind and welcoming character, and makes it a point to get to know everyone and make them feel welcome at our school. Heather picks up the slack anywhere and everywhere, filling in wherever there is a need. She has always been a vital part of ERE and we are lucky to have her!
Laurie Glos:
Laurie Glos is what makes Eagle Rock a happy place! She is the perfect mix of handiwork and enthusiasm. She is supportive and generous with her time and talent. Fun, goofy, and truly loves kids. She inspires students with her artistic talents by making colorful bulletin boards all throughout our school. Many visitors to our school over the years have made comments in awe of her bulletin boards. We know we are lucky to have her but it's super cool to hear outsiders think so too! Mrs. Glos has a way of setting high standards that students actually want to achieve. The kids are better because of her influence and so are the staff! Our school wouldn't be the same without her!
Mail Tribune Spotlights EPHS Student, Katy Gallon
Even when she was a little girl, Katy Gallon knew she wanted to be a doctor.
Playing under her parents’ dresser, Gallon would simulate an operating room using a toy set from Doc McStuffins, the character from the popular Disney Junior television show. Gallon would even “scrub in” to procedures and use latex gloves while playing with the toys.
“I was playing with toy sets with doctors before I could talk, honestly,” she said.
Gallon is not yet a doctor — she is a sophomore at Eagle Point High School. But she is more determined than ever to join the medical field one day, and others hope she will.
