It's May Already!
How is that possible?
Field Trip May 28
We hope you have seen the field trip forms that went home last week. On Wednesday May 28, we are heading to Powder Mill Ledges Wildlife Refuge in Smithfield and Johnston Memorial Park. The cost of the trip is $12 per student and permission slips are available here. We would love for you to be a chaperone! If you will be able to join us that day from 9:15AM- 2:15PM, please get this completed BCI check in, as soon as possible. Mrs. Simpson, in the main office, is a notary. You may bring the BCI form to her to have it notarized.
Some details about the trip:
Some details about the trip:
- Bagged lunches will be required, since we'll be picnicking at the park.
- Students may bring field games for use at the park.
- The Audobon does not allow cameras/ recording devices. We will be asking students to leave cell phones in their school bags, in their lockers that day. We'd love your support with this request!
Drafting Policy
Students have been thinking hard about policies that will best support students and adults in using digital devices in schools responsibly. As we experiment with new technologies, the students on this team are the experts!
Boom Writer
We are thrilled to be publishing a book using Boom Writer. A published author wrote chapter one, and through a writing competition, we are collaboratively writing the rest!
US History
Students have enjoyed using a variety of resources to learn about the late 1800s. Some of the narratives that have supported our learning include Minty, Henry's Freedom Box, Pink and Say and Civil War Artist.
Family Book Club
Please join us in reading A Wrinkle in Time this month! We will meet to discuss it on Wednesday morning, June 11 from 7:00-7:30AM. Please sign up here, so we know how many people to expect!
Working in Sports
We interviewed the Director of Security at Gillette to learn more about careers in sports. While not everyone can be a professional athlete, it takes a number of highly skilled individuals to produce the sporting events we see on TV.
Artist in Residence?
We were thrilled to have local a artist visit our team and share his work with us. We got a sneak preview of a children's book he is writing! Would you believe he's been working on a board book for toddlers for three months?!?!
Genius Hour
Students have worked hard to develop presentations. Many have learned to screencast and edit video as part of their process. We can't wait to share our learning on June 6!
Math Stations
Algebra can be hands on! We're using Hands-On-Equations to make sense of some complex math.
Microscope
As part of the "Diversity of Life" kit, students look at various microorganisms. Here, a student is looking at paramecia.
Elodea
A "cousin" of seaweed. Elodea is a multi-celled aquatic plant.
