Tumbleweed Times Week 36

News from Ranch 25 - June 3, 2016

First Grade Happenings

There will be no homework in the Friday Folders this week. No reading books or spelling lists. (In fact, you may keep the Friday Folder. I do not need it anymore.) Since next week is the last week of school, we will be working on catching up on any old work and cleaning our room. (We may be working on a Father's Day gift as well.) This includes sorting all the books in our book boxes. If you have any of the Leveled Readers at home, please send them in ASAP. Thanks!

We attended a fun assembly on Tuesday with the children's author, Matthew Ward. Mr. Ward grew up in San Diego and wrote The Fantastic Family Whipple and War of World Records. Both books are about a family who has become famous for breaking the most World Records. If your child is interested in purchasing one or both of these books, there are order forms in the media center.

Field Day

Field Day will be held on Thursday, June 9th from 12:30 to 2:30 PM. Students will rotate through a series of fun physical activity stations. Some of these stations include water and students will get wet. If your child does not want to get wet, then s/he will wear a pinnie to let the volunteers know not to get him/her wet. They practiced some of the activities this week in P.E. with Coach Kono.

Students should wear their blue digital dash class t-shirt and shorts or pants that can get wet (no swimsuits). They should also wear shoes that can get wet, but still cover the toes. Your child will only need a change of clothes if s/he will be attending CDC after school. You may pack a towel to dry off afterward.

Students should apply sunscreen at home in the morning and wear a hat if desired. They also need to bring a refillable (not disposable) water bottle to carry with them on their journey around the stations. Please make sure the water bottle has your child's name on it.

We need your help! PTA is having difficulty getting volunteers for Field Day. Field Day is a wonderful day and lots of fun for everyone involved. If you are available on Thursday from noon to 2:30 PM, please let me know as soon as possible via email. If you plan to show up to watch your child, be prepared to be put to work. Thank you in advance for volunteering. This is the last big event for our students this year and we really want it to be a big success!!

Lost and Found

Even if you don't thing your child has lost something, you might want to stop by the Lost and Found table near the front office anyway. You never know what might be missing. All items will either be disposed of or donated on Friday, June 10th.
