Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

Our students have been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by experiencing cultural activities within their specials classes. It is our hope that students are enjoying celebrating their culture or experiencing traditions of a culture they are not as familiar with!

With the change in seasons, we have beautiful fall colors and cooler weather. Please be sure to send your child to school with a jacket; we will be going outside for recess as much as possible.

As we approach the end of the quarter, please encourage your student to do their best work. They've been making wonderful progress already this year!

Thursday, October 14 - Noon Dismissal (NO LUNCH SERVED), Parent Teacher Conferences (1:30pm-7:30pm)

Friday, October 15 - No Student Attendance Parent Teacher Conferences (cont'd. - 9am-3pm)

Tuesday, October 19- Picture Retakes

Friday, October 22 - Quarter 1 Ends

Monday, October 25 - Quarter 2 Begins

Friday, October 29 - Noon Dismissal, Teacher Inservice

Parent teacher conferences will be held on October 14th and October 15th. Please use the SignUpGenius to secure a slot with your child's teacher(s). Be sure to indicate if you will be coming in-person or attending virtually. We kindly ask that you arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time so we are able to stay on schedule. You will be receiving multiple signups from each teacher your student sees during their day at school. Please feel free to sign up for a conference with each teacher you would like to speak with.

Sign-ups will close on Tuesday, October 12 at noon. If you have not scheduled your conferences by that time, please reach out to your student's teachers directly.

Junior High Specials

Junior high specials courses will be changing at the end of the quarter. On October 25, all junior high students will receive a schedule with their new course assignments.


Please be sure to follow our traffic flow map and signage around the school grounds. Please do not block crosswalks or stop in areas that are not designated as student drop off areas. We appreciate everyone's cooperation, as this will allow for traffic flow in and out to go much more smoothly. Thank you in advance.

Door W3 is the current main entrance to access the school office. There is a buzzer located next to the door that alerts Ms. Ortega.

24th Street west of 13th will be closed periodically throughout the day without notice due to our construction project. You will need to head south on 13th Ave.

Attendance Reminder

Please call the attendance line (708) 447-8030, option 2 if your child will NOT be in attendance.

Breakfast & Lunch

Students have the opportunity to participate in our breakfast program at Komarek School. Breakfast will begin at 7:45am daily. Students should line-up at door W3 (West Building). Please see the breakfast menu found below, as well as this month's updated lunch menu.

Menus have changed at the last minute. Once we are aware of a menu change, we will post the updated menu on our website and on ClassDojo.

Quest has started posting menus to Please feel free to access this site to view menu updates, nutritional information, or translations. This will be available beginning with the October menu, and you can search "Komarek" to find our school-specific menu. Please note that this menu and site is provided and updated by Quest, and not Komarek.

Tech Corner

Charging Devices

Please ensure that school iPads and Chromebooks are charged and ready to go for the next day of school. These devices are important for your student's learning, and having a charged device helps your student's day start smoothly. Thank you in advance!


Please note that headphones are on the school supply list for all students in grades K-8. These headphones ensure that our students can focus when using their devices. If you have not sent headphones to school with your student, please do so when possible. If you are unable to obtain headphones for your student, please contact your student's homeroom teacher or Patricia Boguslaw ( Thank you!

PTA Meeting

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will take place Tuesday, Oct. 12 to Friday Oct. 15. Students visit the book fair with their reading classes during school and may bring their own money to buy books. The PTA buys every student a book (up to $6 in value) at the fair. We also have "Friends and Family" events during both days of Parent Teacher Conferences so that the entire family can attend.

Affy Tapple Fundraiser

The deadline to order for the Affy Tapple fundraiser is October 18. Please visit to place your order! Pick up is at the school on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 3pm-5pm.
