networks
what is a network
a network is a number of computers linked together to allow them to share resources. Networked computers can share hardware, software and data.
A bus network
In a bus network all the workstations, servers and printers are joined to one cable. At each end of the cable a terminator is fitted to stop signals reflecting back down the bus.an advantage for the bus network is its cheap to install, as it doesn’t require much cable a disadvantage is its the more workstations there is the slower the performance is.
the ring network
a ring network is a load of devices linked together in a circle if one fails they all fail. a disadvantage for the ring network is its expensive to install as this type of network uses the most cable. an advantage for the ring network is its very reliable – if one cable or device fails then all the others will continue to work
the star network
In a star network each device on the network has its own cable that connects to a switch or a hub. A hub sends every bit of data to every device, where a switch only sends a bit of data to the destination device.an advantage for the ring network is if one cable or device fails then all the others will continue to work a disadvantage is expensive to install as this type of network uses the most cable
