Principal's Message
Dear Families,
I hope you had a great week back at school. We thoroughly enjoyed having the students in our building and making our Haynes Elementary School active again. At Haynes you may notice some teachers focusing on goal-setting for students, and meeting with students to discuss these goals. Teachers continue to review student growth within the academic and social/emotional domains.
We continue to make progress towards filling the vacant positions. If you know of anyone interested in being a teacher assistant, special education tutor, or an ABA tutor, please encourage them to apply at: www.schoolspring.com.
This upcoming week, Ms. Williams will be the building administrator at Haynes from Monday through Friday, as I will be away until the following week. May you all have a happy week ahead!
Sincerely,
Nadine Ekstrom, Ph.D.

Welcome to Our New School Resource Officer, Jess Latini
Hi everyone! My name is Jess Latini and I am the new School Resource Officer (SRO) for all 4 of the elementary schools in Sudbury. I am going into my third year as a Police Officer with the Sudbury Police Department and am currently working on my masters degree in Forensic Psychology. I am very excited to be joining the SPS team and getting to know all of the students and their families better.
5th Grade - Anti-Bullying Presentation
On Friday, January 6th, Officer Jess and Dr. Ekstrom presented anti-bullying practices to the 5th graders. There were many questions about the presentation and Dr. Ekstrom went around to each 5th grade classroom at the end of the day to debrief with individual classes.

Message from Whitson's Food Services Regarding Sesame Food Allergy:
We would like to call your attention to an upcoming change within the U.S. “major food allergens” labeling regulations. Current FDA regulations, under the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA), require food manufacturers to label food products that contain ingredients and/or proteins derived from one of the following eight food(s)/food groups:
Current FDA food Allergens Effective until December 31,2022
Milk
Egg
Fish
Crustacean shellfish
Tree nut
Wheat
Peanuts
Soybeans
Although more than 160 foods have been identified to cause food allergies in sensitive individuals, the “major food allergens”, listed above, had accounted for 90% of all food allergies.
Under the new Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education and Research Act of 2021 (FASTER Act), sesame was added to the list of “major food allergens” for which labeling disclosures are mandatory. Beginning January 1, 2023, food companies will be required to declare the presence of sesame on food packaging labels. According to the FDA, data suggest that the prevalence of sesame allergies in the United States appear to have increased and there has been a high frequency of severe allergic reactions to sesame from products with undeclared sesame ingredients. The FDA is strongly encouraging manufacturers to voluntarily declare sesame as the 9th “major food allergen” on their product packaging prior to the required implementation date.
Whitson's Position
Upon the release of the 2021 FASTER Act, Whitson's proactively added sesame as the 9th allergen call-out in Dine Central. Over the past several months all products containing sesame, or its by-product, have had the allergen called out on the DC allergen report. To further support and address the increased incidents of allergic reactions to sesame, Whitson's continues to minimize the use of products containing this allergen. In addition, we have eliminated the use of sesame oil in all of our recipes and we do not allow sesame seeds in any recipes. However, all of the commercial bakeries we purchase from will begin using sesame flour effective 1/1/23. FD Meal Planner
