RAMS Student Engagement
Increasing student achievement through engagement
Research Brief

Observations provide a snapshot of student engagement. During the month of February (2019), data was collected at Robert Anderson Middle School to show the percentage of students who were "on task" for each activity observed in classrooms throughout the school (Knight, 2018). The observation data is sorted by percentage from most to least amount of engagement. Notice the types of activities in which students are most engaged (especially above the 80% line). Additionally, each classroom was given a rubric score rating the effectiveness of classroom management and clarity of expectations for each activity. Notice the impact that management and expectations have on the students' ability to engage appropriately in each activity.
