Top 5 Things You Need To Know

1. Celebrate Literacy Week: Home Activity
Happy New Year, PME Parents!
Our Literacy Week is January 23rd-27th. On Tuesday, January 24th, your family is invited to participate in PME’s At Home Leader in Me Family Night. More details about how to participate will follow in your child's Wednesday folder.
2. Vocabulary Parade: Friday, January 27th: 2:00-2:30 in the Bus Loop
To celebrate Literacy Week, Pelican Marsh will host a school-wide Vocabulary Parade on Friday, January 27th. Students are encouraged to create hats, props, and other clothing and display a vocabulary word or phrase that helps to provide meaning for their word or phrase. Our theme this year is Take a Deep Dive Into Literacy. Ocean or water themed vocabulary words are encouraged but not required. Grade level specific categories were chosen as the focus for students to determine their word or phrase. To support students’ feelings of safety and security in our building, no weapons, dangerous looking items, or masks are permitted to accompany an outfit to represent the vocabulary word.
Please understand that you do NOT have to buy anything new for this event. Instead, be creative! Make paper ears, a hat or t--shirt to represent your word. Students should have their word or phrase prominently stated on a name tag or in some other way on them. Search the dictionary, pull out the thesaurus or consider using something new that you learned in class. Students should bring their signs, props, special clothing to wear or carry during the parade to school on Friday. Please DO NOT send students to school dressed ready for the parade. Classroom teachers will provide ample time for students to get ready.
Talk with your child about how he or she would like to participate in the event and mark your calendars! If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. Thank you for joining us as we embark on this new journey with words. We cannot wait to see all our vocabulary word wizards!
3. Parent Survey
We are seeking your input. PME is in the beginning stages of our Leader in Me Journey. Leader in Me is centered around 3 pillars: leadership, culture and academics. This year students have participated in clubs, set goals and tracked their progress in leadership binders, and learned more about the 7 Habits. As we plan, we welcome your input. Please click the link below to participate.

Upcoming Community Event

Thank you to our PME families for all of the generous book donations for our second annual Believe N Books book drive. Thanks to your donations, earlier this week we were able to deliver over 1,000 books to Grace Place for them to use for their upcoming Family Literacy Day to share the love of reading with others in our community!
Save the date for our second Market at the Marsh, February 6-10, to celebrate the end of the second quarter with the opportunity to reward students for their hard work with small items ($1-$4) available for purchase. If you are interested in volunteering to support the shop, please email pmepto@gmail.com.
Second Grade Garden Lessons will begin later this month! We are so fortunate to have our own PME garden, and there are many volunteer opportunities available from supporting the weekly lessons to morning garden maintenance. If you are interested in helping in the PME garden, email pmepto@gmail.com.
Girls on the Run is back for a Spring season! Registration is open to PME girls in grades 3-5, practices take place Mondays and Wednesdays after school, and the season will begin the week of February 20th. Go to gotrswfl.org for more information or to register.
