Facilities Update

Mr. Upperco and representatives from ABM presented a facilities update.

I. Learning Lane Closure Due to City Culvert Project:

--On or about May 28th, the intersection at Learning Lane and Emancipation Highway is to be closed through July 29th

--Consequently, access to Lafayette Elementary and Walker Grant Middle schools will be via Pender Lane, off Lafayette Boulevard.

2. Chiller Replacement at Lafayette Elementary and Walker Grant Middle School

--The Walker Grant project is currently scheduled to begin approximately June 6th once the school is vacated.

--The school will be without cooling for approximately four weeks. However, air handlers will remain operational to circulate air and dehumidifiers will be placed in the library and book rooms.

--The Lafayette project has been delayed until after teachers return at the end of July. FCPS is still working on an implementation schedule at his time.

3. Replacing boilers at Walker Grant and Hugh Mercer are still in development

4. Energy upgrades including LED lighting, low flow faucets and toilets are still in development.

5. FCPS is continuing to seek interested vendors for the Storm Water Retention Project at Lafayette Elementary School.

New Business

The Chair announced that the James Monroe High School graduation would be held on Thursday,May26,2021 at 7:00 p.m. at the UMW Anderson Center.

Dr. Catlett shared that 4 Superintendent Round Table discussions would be held with the community. The first Round Table discussion was scheduled for Thursday, April 7th at 8:00 a.m. at the Walker-Grant Center.

Good of the Order

Ms. Holmes shared that she had seen a YouTube video of JMHS registering students to vote and another video of FCPS librarians discussing the libraries at their schools. These were positive activities.

Mrs. Pomeroy stated that she was excited to see the new extra curricular clubs that were being started at Walker-Grant Middle School.
