A School-Wide Title I School: November, 2019
A Busy November!
Welcome to another busy month at Denton Elementary! I look forward to seeing many of you at Parent Visitation day on November 8 or at conference day on November 15. A complete list of upcoming events is posted below so I hope you will join us for these events.
The last week of October held many learning experiences for the administrative team at DES; I appreciate your continued support of the school. First, I would like to address concerns that some parents have shared with me regarding the information sent out during Tuesday's lockdown. I understand that many of you wanted to know more information about the final outcome of the threat while others felt that more information should have been shared earlier; please know that DES shared what we could when we could, and Denton Police shared their details as soon as charges were brought. I completely understand your concerns and am working with Rico Gestole, the CCPS Public Safety Officer and CCPS safety partners (Denton Police, Caroline Sheriff's Office et al.) to ensure our communication processes are as clear and consistent as possible while ensuring student and staff safety.
I understand that some parents were concerned about safety during the Book Character Parade on Thursday. Again, I am most appreciative to those who reached out to discuss their concerns directly with the administrative team. We have learned a great deal about how this event has been done in the past and know that we need to plan more specifically for how an indoor parade and security can be integrated smoothly. Again, if you have a suggestion, please contact us directly as we would appreciate suggestions.
This week, we will hold our Family Visitation Day where families can visit classrooms to learn alongside our #DESTreasures. Many have already been "Raptored" so we will have your badge ready when you arrive. It is not too late to come by the school to have your ID scanned before Friday; you may also RSVP so that we can have your materials ready. Vistors may enter the cafeteria beginning at 8:45 AM to pick up materials for the day. Following announcements, student ambassadors will be available to direct you to the classrooms. If you have not preregistered, you may still enter through the cafeteria in the morning to be processed; after 10:30 AM, please enter through the front door. I look forward to meeting more of you on Friday!
Thank you again for your continued support for Denton Elementary School!

The Book Fair will be open until 4:00 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday this week. It will stay open until 5:30 PM on Wednesday, November 6. Flyers with some of the titles have been sent home.
Registered Tier II volunteers who are interested in helping with the Book Fair may use this link to sign up. There are still some slots open. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805044aa8ab2ca2fd0-des2019 . Thank you for your continued support of DES media center!
Help Us Make DES a "Green" School!
Another big task that is being planned is the building of raised beds outside to support the hydroponic grower we have inside; the purpose of these beds will be to show students how to grow our own produce and plants that can be used in our cafeteria. If you are willing to help with making these beds or have an expertise in masonry, please reach out to Mr. Breedlove. The Science Committee would like to begin this important project to increase the learning for our students.
We hope all of the DES family will support these efforts!
