PARK PENCIL POINT NEWSLETTER
January 25, 2024
The mission of the Chardon Local Schools is we commit to high achievement for all students.
REMINDER TO DRESS FOR THE WEATHER!
Park students go outside unless it is below 15 degrees, so they must be prepared each day. That means the following items should come to school daily: COAT, BOOTS, SNOW PANTS, HAT, GLOVES, SCARF, etc. The best way to send these items to school is in a reusable grocery bag. Marc's sells big ones that hold everything nicely and seem to last the season. PLEASE MARK EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME!!!
A few other things to mention:
We do not wear boots in the classroom, so be sure your child has indoor shoes to wear.
Students without the appropriate snow clothes will not be allowed to play in areas with snow, and will have to remain on the blacktop at recess.
Extra socks come in handy, so feel free to keep an extra pair in the snow gear bag.
Students must be able to dress themselves, which includes zipping coats and putting on gloves.
Hello Hilltopper Families!
Did you know that January is National Hobby Month? It's an exciting time to celebrate and encourage your child's interests beyond the classroom. Hobbies not only provide a creative outlet for your children, but also foster important classroom skills like focus, perseverance, and problem-solving. I love hearing about your student’s hobbies, whether it be cheerleading, football, jujitsu, karate, painting, caring for a pet, playing the piano, remote control cars and so many more. Some of my hobbies include travel (especially to places with beautiful beaches), taking long walks in the Geauga parks with my dog, Millie and interior decorating. Encourage your child to continue to share their hobbies with their classmates, teachers and ME! As we recognize National Hobby Month, let's support and celebrate the diverse talents and interests that make our Park community so unique.
P.S.-Because of the snow day last Friday, the Basketball Jones assembly has been rescheduled for February 22, 2024. I can’t wait!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee
PARENTS OF GRADE 2 STUDENTS:
Your child will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) during the window of February 5-9, 2024. This is an Ohio-required whole-grade test that screens all students for potential gifted identification in Superior Cognitive Ability and Creative Thinking Ability, and it also provides information about students' strengths. Following the screening, individual student results will be sent home with your child. Please contact your child’s school for exact testing dates and times. If you have questions or concerns about this assessment please contact megan.kinney@chardonschools.org.
