CCS Newsletter
September 29, 2017
Dear CCS Families and Friends,
We have had another wonderful week here at CCS! We are excited to be eating breakfast and lunch back in the cafeteria and so appreciative of the hard work of our maintenance and custodial staff to support this quick transition.
Now that the cafeteria has reopened, morning drop-off is at the cafeteria entrance. Please do not drop your children off at the west (gym/band/flagpole) end of the building - there is no supervision at that end of the building before school. We also ask that your children either take the bus home or be picked up at dismissal time, unless they participate in the after-school Part2 Program. Students are not to be in the building before or after school hours without parent or caregiver supervision.
Our CVSD website is live (https://www.cvsdvt.org)! We will be adding more information to the website over the next few weeks. Please continue to utilize classroom newsletters and blogs to learn about what is happening in your student’s classrooms.
We wish you all a lovely fall weekend after this week’s summer-like heat wave!
Kind regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
THIS WEEK AT CCS
- Lego Play - a calm and cool activity during these hot, fall days!
- CCS students in grades 5-8 participated in a Think Tank on Thursday, September 28th. They worked through a series of activities imagining what schools in the future would be like. There was a buzz of creativity, innovation and excitement in each group, as students brought their voices about their education to the table!
- Many of our classrooms participated in the “Week of Inspirational Math” (check it out: https://www.youcubed.org/week-inspirational-math/) as a part of their early learning. Here is an example of this in second grade: with three different colored blocks, students found 9 unique combinations. The combinations increased exponentially when students added a fourth color. Some students are still independently working on finding them all!
- The following 5th and 6th graders that will represent CCS at our CVSD Spelling Bee on Friday, Oct 6th: Josh Batchelder, Sam Dore, Hannah Stein, Nik Blasius and alternates Nina Cusick and Shana Mester. Our 7th and 8th grade team will also participate, including the following participants: Heidi Beal, Grace McNally, Hadley Stockwell, Isabella Hackerman, Chloe Silverman, Jacqueline Postlewaite, Innogen Naylor and Aidan Devine.

CAFETERIA IS NOW OPEN
Our cafeteria opened yesterday for the first lunch of the 17/18 school year. Therefore:
- Early morning drop off (7:30 – 8:00) will be at the cafeteria door starting Friday, September 29th.
- Dismissal pick up at the cafeteria end of the building will remain the same as it has been. Students will exit through the library, down the ramp and car loading will be by the cones between the two parking lots.
- Part2 – while lunches are being served and eaten in the cafeteria, there is still some work being done in the Annex and closet areas in the back of the cafeteria. Part2 will remain in the MPR until Monday, October 9th.
MUSIC ANNOUNCEMENTS
Students in grades 5-8 who choose to participate in band or chorus will receive a music handbook. This handbook contains important information regarding concert dates, grading policies, rehearsal etiquette, and more. This document is a contract between the teacher(s), parent(s), and student that must be abided by during the 2017-2018 school year.
The last page of the handbook must be signed by the student and parent/guardian, then returned to Mr. Smith or Mrs. Littlefield as soon as possible.
A digital copy of the handbook will be put on our CCS music website for future reference. (The website is coming soon!)
Thanks for your continued support of the CCS music program!
